Peugeot Boxer Coolant Header tank 1996 2.5TD

Talk to the seller, but this says it fits:

Sick of messing about so took a punt on that one. If its not right ill just send it back. Cheers.

Just to update this thread. The tank that arrived was totally the wrong one so its gone back but my neighbour did a superb repair on the old one using Epoxy which is rated to way higher a temperature than it should ever get to hopefully.

So Ive stuck the hose back on and topped up the tank. I just stuck about two litres of water in to get it back to the level. Should it have more coolant added or will the system need properly flushing for air? I hadnt been far when I discovered the header tank leak and there was still water in it.

Get yourself a proper coolant tester, about £10 on Amazon/eBay. It will tell you if the coolant is the correct strength.
I also test the corrosion pack with a multimeter. That way I know it's good or needs changing.

You should have topped up with coolant, never water as it wrecks head gaskets and other components, they stopped using water after ww2.
Dont think epoxy will hold on plastics, id still look for a replacement, any tank with the correct amount of outlets will do, just may have to remount it with brakets.

@barryd, you should listen to @trevskoda.
Stop wasting effort constantly tinkering with unreliable sticky plasters/finger in the dyke bodge jobs on your header tank (please no tasteless jokes either you dinosaurs!) 🙄😜😉😁

Surely can't be that big a job for a proper old-school mechanic and fettler who knows what they're doing?
Found a fantastic mechanic up here, but maybe too far to bring your old girl from Weardale to the Tyne valley... 🤷‍♀️🤔

There may be a bleed screw in the heater hose/s if you can't see any Just check it after you've run it a few miles

Lots on line from 40 bucks, make a bracket and sorted.

You would think so but it's impossible. I can't get anyone to work on this van. I can't even get anyone reliable to look at my car and the bikes. People keep recommending garages, you ring them up and they dont want to know, especially with the van. I have a regular garage which I've used for 30 years but they are a 35 mile round trip. I have been trying to get them or anyone frankly to sort the cold starting problem for 11 years now. No that's not a typo. Top tip. Living in the Dales is lovely but unless you can fix just about anything yourself. Dont move here. :( I've had a shitty day. Can you tell? :D

Its the same everywhere these days, maggie thatcher closed all tec training schools and turned all young kids into filofax nurds.

Well that went well (Not). Finally got round to taking the van out for a test drive with the repaired header tank. two to three miles, pulled back up and its leaking again from around the same place. I cant tell if its a new crack or the repair just fell apart. Its the same plastic outlet that the hose goes onto though.

So back to the drawing board. As I see it there are two options. Find a replacement tank or get this one professionally repaired. I dont care how much it costs, I just want someone to sort it. Trouble is, I cant drive it to the one garage that might have a look at it as its too far, could get it recovered probably. There is another garage literally a mile and a half up the road but he doesnt have space for it but might be able to effect a repair outside I dunno.

I wonder if I am best taking the tank off and finding a professional repairer to take it to then putting it back on again.

I would go for the new tank and probably new hose if you can find them Barry. I'm sure that's what a garage would do but then you would also be paying labour on top, and it's not a big job to do yourself. (Now we know that you are a qualified engineer extraordinaire).

Have you tried ringing a local Motor Factors?

Ideally yes a new tank would be best but its finding one. All the replacements I can find online for this van which is a 1996 L230 Peugeot Boxer 2.5td seem to be this big long oblong thing I had delivered recently which simply wont fit. I would be more than happy to pay a garage to just sort it and find a tank that fits but it would be easier to persuade Putin just to shake hands with everyone and go home. :D

If I could find the right tank or one that would fit I am sure my neighbour and I could fit it but I am conscious that I am using up all my favours with him also.

You could try sticking it in here Barry - your registration that is. (If you haven't already).

Not sure what the tank is made of, but if it is polyethylene it is notoriously hard to stick anything to, often has to be a weld which is not very easy.

It must be possible to use a different but brand new expansion tank. I bought a brand new tank for a nissan micra and that was £10 delivered from ebay.
