Got the van out for a short run today and the flaming coolant header tank is busted. I remember one of the outlets developed a small split about eight years ago and the mechanic couldnt get a new tank so he just glued it. Well its knackered again and sure enough, googling around I cant immediately find one. I suspect there will be one somewhere at a breakers if I do a bit more research but do you think its worth attempting another repair? It looks like the bit of plastic tubing the rubber hose goes onto has just split. you can now just pull it off with very little effort. See photos below.

And here it is detached. I would prefer to get it fixed here with maybe the help of my neighbour as taking it to a garage is just a complete PIA.

If you repair it Barry, it is possible it won’t last 8 years like last time, so I’d suggest you do a temporary repair and see if you can get a replacement in the next 5 years or so.

It is not pressurised, but is an overflow return. Clean it well and get some HD epoxy glue and stick it back together again.

The best two part epoxy I've used is JB Weld. I used the original version, but I see on ebay they've got various versions now, including a high heat putty. Might be worth a try

Thanks all. My engineer neighbour has suggested exactly what you have in the main suggested. Some kind of alcohol cleaner then an Epoxy fix which he will attempt tomorrow afternoon. He says he cannot guarantee how long it will last. I would prefer a new one but I cant find one remotely like that one. I have been told there are universal ones or maybe there is one similar that will work but I have no idea what I am looking for really. Maybe a call round some of the breakers.

Wasting you time,fit another barry.

We are not exactly inundated with scrap yards around here, in fact there are none. The best bet might be finding something online but so far I have found nothing. The last repair was about eight years ago I believe and it was repaired for the same reason. Couldnt find a replacement.

Don’t even think about using epoxy, you remove it by warming it up. Even though it will take time to cure, a polyurethane mastic will handle the heat better.

Thanks. I will be calling round some of these this afternoon. A replacement tank is the way to go I think. I just dont want to waste time getting the wrong one. I messaged the ebay seller above with some photos attached but so far no reply. They state UK seller but the business address is in Poland.
