Overnight and all day in a disabled space not good pr

It’s quite refreshing that not everybody here is in the “ tell them they can’t do what they are doing” camp, which seems to be common practice in the UK.
No, they probably shouldn’t take up two spaces in normal circumstances, but, it’s a large vehicle and it seems to be the only way they can park.
I would say, let them get on with it. I’m sure they will soon be gone and the “ problem” will go away. But then, some consider me a lefty liberal......😇

Many on here have worked in the Forces with the Forces mentality.(not all)Some of us are more understanding and believe in Live and Let live. :giggle:

It might be free for disabled parking which in my opinion it shouldn’t be for me my blue badge is about parking near to somewhere I am visiting rather than a free parking space .
Some car parks allow free parking for blue badge holders if you disagree pay , if your agree say thank you .

Not really applicable as they could use the blue badge and stay on the Highway but each to thei own

I do pay wether I have to or not because I have never understood why blue badge holders get some carparks free surely it’s about access not about wether you can afford parking it appears we want equal treatment when it suits us.🤷‍♀️

Annie the idea of the blue badge is to be nearer where you are going, but being disabled you are generally disadvantaged financially too, through no fault of your own, hence why a lot of blue badge parking is free. Please use what you are entitled to.

I've been in two minds as to posting on this thread, but have decided to.
There may be a good reason for the parking, but on the face of it, doesn't look good. Generally blue badges are issued so that people find it easier to access services, or (for wider bays) get in and out of vehicle easier. If they are taking up two spaces for days at a time it may well be depriving others of using the parking. One grey area is that the regs state:-

  • You should not use the badge to allow non-disabled people to take advantage of the benefits while you sit in the car.
Which raises the question, what are the 'benefits' of parking in that spot? Is it so a disabled person might admire the view, or is it for them to access the water front, or is it to access nearby shops/services?

I have often seen in golf club car park a person put a blue badge in the window of the car in a disabled bay. I have then sometimes seen them playing a round of Golf sometimes 3 or 4 miles walking. I know that some disabilities are more severe at times then others. But surely if you feel fit enough to walk the course ............... hope I have not offended anyone by saying this

I also thought that there were time limits to blue badge parking. Maybe a badge holder can enlighten me

AFAIK, only on some spaces. The sign next to it will say if it's an hour or something.

I was told Cancer patients qualify for a blue badge ,they have many hospital visits both short and long stays , surley they Deserve blue badge bays .I was in shoping center car park all blue badge were full , but plenty of empty mother and child bays a shop worker came to assist me and told me a blue badge holder can park in M n C bays .In this carpark .

On yellow lines it is limited to 3 hours
Correct but if you don't set your timer correctly you get a hefty fine , in some car parks. They have to pay but are given some extra time .Read the small print .

A good honest post Annie if you don't mind me saying so.

You have to read the book you get with them for roadside parking and all car parks are different some free some you get an extra hour some you can get up to 3 hours extra.

I recall parking in a disabled bay in a South Coast town (Brighton? Hastings?) We had a cup of tea before going shopping.
Cue lots of dirty looks from people hanging around outside the pub we were quite near, despite the blue badge clearly displayed on the dash.
They all seemed to change their expression when I got the wheelchair out of the boot and the blue badge holder got into it.
But what if her mobility problem wasn't so visible?
People seem to assume that blue badges and disabled spaces will be abused. OK, sometimes they are, but often they're not: it just looks that way.

Don’t think anyone will be in any doubt when seeing me hobble away, but it must be difficult for some with less obvious disabilities.

Very true, but we don’t know where this village is or if there are any other parking facilities or anywhere else in the vicinity where they could park a motorhome for that amount of time. I was only really commenting on where and how they were actually parked.

Of course, the answer is for councils to provide proper parking facilities for motorhomes, like they did for cars in the early 1900’s.

If you saw me, you would think I was allowed a blue badge, I'm not as my disabilities are not deemed permanent. My father however(when he was alive), if you had seen him put in place his blue badge and jump out the car, you would think he was taking the piss, you might change your mind seeing him get back to the car possibly looking very tired.

Cue lots of dirty looks .....

Reminds me of a few years ago. Tommy could walk very short distances only, so used a wheelchair. We arrived into a packed Orlando immigration hall (usual story there, 20 booths and only 6 of them manned) where the wait would probably have been at least two hours. Helpful officer spots us and directs us all the way around the outside of the people queuing to wait at the front behind another wheelchair. Already the looks were bad enough, but after being sat on a plane for 7 hours he thinks its a good time to get up and do his "need to stretch my legs" dance...

I'm surprised we made it out alive.
