OUR NEW TO US MOTORHOME!

Mine has a label saying max 150Kgs and its a 2007 van so assumed all probably have them?

Edit: Correction, my van doesn't have a garage as such it has a full height locker on one side that goes about a third of the width of the van. The other two thirds are used by the bathroom. There are extensions from the chassis that the back part of the van fits on, that's what the loading is rated for. I think I saw @Phantom post in one of his threads that they are Al-Ko
Thanks nabsim. We pick her up tomorrow so I'll have a look for a label somewhere 🙂👍

Afternoon all, sorry it's me again. Just phoned the dealer to ask about the spare wheel, and apparently it died have on. So I guess it'll just be a can of gloop to seal little punctures. What are peoples thoughts on carrying a spare as opposed to a can of gloop. Personally I think I'll be looking for a wheel and tyre (although I don't suppose that will be eady or cheap), but obviously this comes with a weight penalty.🤷

The only punctures I have ever had in any of the cars I have had with no spare have been sidewall damage. The gloop doesn't work with that kind of damage so I was always had to be recovered. I don't know if it's true but I was told by recovery that if you use the gloop the tyre place scraps the tyre so even if repairable it won't be. Check that yourself though

My van has a spare wheel/tyre so I have never worried with that. I have seen where some people have vans with no spare they carry a spare tyre in case it's needed but not a wheel. I suppose the other thing to think about is how common are your tyre sizes, can they be got off the shelf wherever you are likely to go or would you be sat waiting for days?

I agree, I've also been told many tyre places wont repair a tyre with gloop in it. I think I'll be on the search for a spare wheel and tyre. 🙂👍

That looks great trev, and very sturdy. Wish I had a welder....not that I'd know how to use it😂. We will be having a pedal lock (any recommendations anyone ?) and a host of other anti scrote devices to put them off. We've sunk all our savings and then some into our purchase and want to keep it!😁
Lots of all types on ebay.

I have one of these;

Easy enough to use and seems sturdy, although the price seems to have rocketed since I bought mine!

Milenco do them cheaper but I have no experience of them;

We use a Disklok as well and hopefully having both might deter a would be thief. Unfortunately if they are determined enough they will use an angle grinder and they don't care if you come out and challenge them these days, they know the Police won't come out. :(
No police here either, we sort our own problems, make my day punk.

I bought one of these wheel clamps .... https://amzn.to/47KeoFG

I really only used it on the trailer in the driveway as a visual deterent, but have also put it on the motorhome if going away for a time and leaving the van in the driveway - again, as a visual deterrent. I am a believer that putting people off the idea of stealing something is better than having something that tells them after they have broken in.

I also bought one of these - https://amzn.to/3JhRGeO

I prefer these to the big locks that covers the entire wheel as much easier to store out the way. (and it generally lives under one of the side sofas and is very rarely used TBH). But I can put it on if leaving the motorhome in an area I am not too keen on. But to be frank, if I am thinking 'oh, I need to get the steering lock on in this place' I am more likely to move on to somewhere else anyway.

My next bit of 'defence' is the fitting of a small home alarm into the Motorhome. I have this one - https://amzn.to/49jhL7K - plus various add-ons.

This particular one is not currently available but there are quite a few equivalent ones.
What is good about this kind of system is you can add on things like PIR detectors and link the system to cameras plus have it connected via the internet to services like Amazon Alexa. So I have the mag sensors on all the Doors and Windows, plus external locker doors, as well as 2 PIR sensors and a Blink Camera. It is connected to the Alexa Echo in the van so if someone opens a door with the alarm set, the Alexa will tell them they are being recorded and I get an message saying there is an intruder.

These alarm systems are not expensive and are simple to fit. You could get a very simple 'shed alarm' as well which you just set with a remote when you leave the van and protects the van same as you would protect a shed or garage. Again, very cheap but effective.

The stering clam they just saw the steering wheel and remove, the wheel clamp unit is bent back with a long bit of pipe, many things are just to make them move to a van with nout,

if someone wants something bad enough, nothing will stop them, not even your pedal clamp.
Correct, a car was nicked from a chaps house i know, they removed the steering and used a set of mole grips to drive it away, police nailed them on the estate and no other damage was done.

Totally agree, if they want it enough they'll get it, but the harder I can make for them the better. They then may move in to an easier target 🤞.

Not sure I should comment but will anyway lol I sometimes lock my doors when I leave the van. Usually not if I am anywhere near folks I know but if I am going out of sight I lock up when it's strangers around. Mine is a 2007 with battle scars so not going to be much of a target compared to most of you though :)

To be fair though, I have had a tracker in use since I bought the van so I guess there is something, plus the MB imobiliser

No. You shouldn’t comment.
