Oil change

This post was specifically about older vehicles with 2.8 JTD and 2.8 HDi engines. The guy euroserve ( Nick ) knows his stuff.

Another issue on some were the sumps leaking too, I had a Peugeot and Citroen where they leaked they were so rusty and had to be replaced.

I replaced mine a couple of years back, it wasn`t actually leaking but looked very grim indeed and i didn`t want it to start whilst we away.

I've had to replace a Diesel tank as well it just split, near the top fortunately, I'd just filled up to go away so had to delay for a day while it got sorted.

Beast thing is to remove a good sump and shotblast it and 2 pack paint it, nice bright red always looks good. :)

yes - for many years Nick Fisher was in charge of a fleet of Ducatos out on lease/hire at Euroserve in Leicester.
I tend to steer towards the thicker oils too - manufacturer recommendations have to take into account arctic temperatures which we never get on mainland UK
Tesco Oban diiscontinued 4 litre bottles of their own brand C3 5w40 oil and reduced them to £5 so I went mad.
Am using that instead of the 5w30 recommended

Never had that problem in my day as engines leaked so much oil you never heard of sump pans rusting through
So I just wipe over the sump pan with oil to stop it rusting.
Trouble is I suppose someone might look underneath and think its leaking oil - but that doesn't bother me because I know it isn't.

if it's so thin it's leaking blasting it will ruin it totally Trev and no one would bother to do all that anyway, mine were red rusty, after that I looked under the vans when sizing them up and used it as a discount method.

Given Trev said "a good sump", he is maybe thinking of preventive measures? I can't imagine anyone actually doing that. Maybe add some extra paint to one that is about to be fitted as a replacement could make sense?

Mine was replaced last year. Didn't do it myself so it was no doubt fitted as it came.
They are known to become porous and I don't think it is as simple as just them going rusty.

Did mine a few years back and a good quality gasket, still like new, no sign of rust just a little dirty but easily wipes clean when changing oil.

All the petrol heads do s blast and paint them, along with struts and wishbones, my last soda had it all done in red.

I think the last thing the typical Motorhomer is is a Petrol head :D
I used to be in the past actually but I honestly (despite still running a car forum) have zero interest in motoring and cars now :( in the past I would know all the models and specs, but I could not tell you any manufacturers car range now.
(right now my current car I have had just over 6 years. never had any vehicle for that long before and no plans to change it as it does all I need it to .... takes me from A to B)

All faceless boxes now, we used to sit on the kerb edge and name every make and model, take the badges off now and they are very similar.

Vw npw buying chinese platforms for electric cars, there is no such thing as a one brand name anymore.
