mirrorless D-SLR cameras?

It looks like a lot of (new?) people like the beach pic. It was taken in Portugal, at Nazare, where huge Atlantic waves break for the benefit of lunatic surfers!

I'm in a similiar position as yourself.
I inherited my late wifes Canon 5d mk3 and her collection of top end 'L' lens she used for mainly landscape photography.
Its a great full frame camera but far to heavy and bulky to carry around all day.
I am looking for a point and shoot or mirrorless camera that will be light and easy to carry but take a decent photograph.
Hopefully members will post their opinions etc and offer advice.

i also have the 5d so i bought the canon eos M, which came with a 22mm f2, a 18-55 a flash gun and the ef-m to EF adaptor so i have the option of using any of my exsisting canon lenses as well

I assume these are the generation of of lenses with the ultrasonic drive in them? Not the old "brass and glass?"

A decent telephoto lens would be good.
With my F3s I had both 300 and 500 mirror and they were stunning.

So doesn't that take you back to your original post !! and you start to lug loads of gear around again ?

Agreed. I used to lug an OM2 around with fast motor drive, lenses etc. Not any more. Take a look at these two photos, taken from the same viewpoint last year in the Picos mountains.

Cable car station high up on the mountain, picture taken in the car park below.

Cable car station from the same viewpoint, using maximum zoom, the camera was hand held. As I said earlier, I don't need anything else!

The short answer is that I don't know! If I click on the pic I go into Photobucket and view the original, no problemo. I'm not sure I've used a magnifier icon before, I'll have another look.
John
There's always 'Control +'!

Control+ doesn't show full size. Not for me at least.

That is a huge picture though, size seems right for a full jpg with that amount of colour.

I see now. Those are 18Mpx pictures, and the magnifier zooms them up to about five feet across. The first picture isn't too bad at that mag, but the second is on the 60x digital zoom, and it wouldn't stand that level of magnification. It might be a Carl Zeiss lens, but it's only 40mm diameter!
John

Digital zoom definitely reason for the 2nd pic, but still amazing what these cameras can do, and as you say no need for a bag of accessories. Not many people print pics these days.

Thanks David, I might give that a go. I also have a SONY Play Memories account which came with the camera which I have yet to try out.

What about OM-D range of micro four thirds. Dust proof and splash proof body, also some of their electronic zoom lenses sealed the same.
Will do photo and video. If you go for a 17mm lens it can be used as camera for street photography and is small enough to fit in a pocket, not much bigger than a compact but with far more features.

you can use any EF or EFS mount lens alough the olderones may not have autofocus, i have even seen an adaptor for the FD type

i bought my complete kit for £340 from simply electronics, they have loads of bad reviews but i have bought loads of kit from them (always use my credit card) but never had a problem it did take two weeks to come from Japan Via Amsterdam
