Has anyone bought one of the new -ish interchangeable lens digi cameras?

If so, how are you getting on with it? Any problems? And what's a worthwhile make

I got fed up with lugging loads of gear around for a Nikon F3

I'm using a Canon G9 at present but just fancy something that's a bit more versitile

Cannon G9,

Doesn't that have Fully Auto, Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, custom settings, RAW, underwater settings, etc etc.

What else do you need to be more versatile ??

The all new Cannon G10 teasmaid.:have fun:

If you want a camera without a mirror and an interchangable lens you only really have Sony with their SLT cameras. The best value for money seems to be the Sony Alpha 65V which gets the best results apart from the full frame cameras which are costing over £1000. The A65V is available for less than £500 with a kit lens.
The other alternative is the new System cameras which are like a compact with interchangable lenses. They always seem a compromise to me as the SLT from Sony is almost as small and light with not having a mirror. This takes away weight and bulk and the new viewfinder is as good as using a mirror, in fact it can be better as you get 100% view as opposed to a 96% view with most DSLR's.

What sort of price you looking at?

I know it's not specifically what you are after, but the Nikon DSLRs have some right bargains about, and the DX lenses dropped recently to around a third the price (probably due to the FX format). The prices dropped so quickly that some of the larger shops were selling them new for significantly cheaper than second hand / older model prices on ebay (though there will always be people on there willing to pay any price and think it's a bargain).

I've got 18-55 and 55-200 lenses, but a decent nikkor 18-200 would cover most things (though it's a bit more weighty).

Anyway, just an option.

I'm in a similiar position as yourself.
I inherited my late wifes Canon 5d mk3 and her collection of top end 'L' lens she used for mainly landscape photography.
Its a great full frame camera but far to heavy and bulky to carry around all day.
I am looking for a point and shoot or mirrorless camera that will be light and easy to carry but take a decent photograph.
Hopefully members will post their opinions etc and offer advice.

I've recently bought the Sony Alpha 58 kit with with 18-55mm and 55-200mm Lenses. It is a DSLT (translucent mirror).
I haven't had much chance to take pics with it yet, mostly just on auto settings, waiting for our trip next week.
What I have taken I've been very pleased with, and with the right case it was no hassle to take it & both lenses on a 5 mile walk at the Severn Bore Meet.

Ooh - some of those are awesome. My dad was using some right up until digital really kicked in (mainly for studio / indoor work though).

Plus I still love all the mechanisms in them (i'm more a mechanical than electrical/electronic person)

I've owned using a Sony A65V for quite a while now, and find it an excellent camera. However, it's still quite a lot to lug around with extra lenses and flashgun, so I have a compact for when I want to go lightweight.

This might be the first piccie I ever put on here. Taken with my SONY Cybershot DSC-HX200V Bridge camera bought this time last year. GPS, HD Movies etc. Now available on-line for about £250!
I don't need anything else.
John

I use that as my screen saver.

They are up to G15 now !! beautiful beasts

I've been tempted for some time to replace my Nikon D40 (too big and heavy to be bothered with on long walks and cycle rides) with a G16.

Has anyone bought the G16 and not liked it?
All opinions welcome

Edit : if my question is too far off-topic/hijacking thread please let me know and I'll delete it

I was in the same boat ans tried various smaller cameras, inc a Canon G11 but really wanted the versatility of the interchangeable lens. Finally settled on a Sony Nex 6 which is fabulous. It has everything i was looking for - RAW, great low light performance, full manual control, the best electronic viewfinder I have ever used which is miles better than the optical one on the G11, a £10 adapter lets me use all my Canon lenses (manual focus only but the Sony manual focus system is so good I tend to use that all the time anyway) same size sensor as my Canon 60D and all in a camera that (almosts) fits in my pocket. I am seriously thinking of selling my Canon.

I posted a few pics from my recent trip to Scotland (http://www.wildcamping.co.uk/forums/wild-camping-motorhome-chat/35792-got-about-3-weeks-spare.html#post408338) or you can see better resolution examples at www.tadpole.shutterchance.com where the last 50 or so posts were all made with the Sony

A decent telephoto lens would be good.
With my F3s I had both 300 and 500 mirror and they were stunning.
