LPG stations

Then don’t participate, I’ve tried in the past to update both myLPG.eu and S4S even sent them an email asking why when members update that stations no longer selling lpg are not removed still waiting for a reply so anyone who wants to add do and those that don’t then don’t but maybe admin can add them to the poi map just a thought.
Putting them on the POI map would be far better for access than a thread.

I agree that both the apps are bad at removing out of date stuff, but why would we be any better.
We all know that POI is not 100% upto date.

I posts a review stating that the site is closed on S4S and myLPG.
I also check the last reviewed date and sometimes even check the stations we

There is little point in updating an app when no one removes the out of date info.
Yes what’s vital is if someone finds that a garage no longer sells gas that they update or report this to whomever updates any source. How many times have folk reported changes on here, but fail to update the location app. Even leaving a message on the comments section stating no overnight signs etc would be helpful, that way each individual can decide what they want to do. When you look at search for sites nearly every location is filled with very helpful comments.

As someone else who also has a background (in another life) of database development and management whilst it's a great suggestion that we pool info and resources the effort would be better put into updating what's already out there and promoting that source on the forum. What I would suggest is we look at and decide which is currently the best LPG source available on the internet which is the most up to date, easiest to use on all platforms and easiest for us to update and add to. There are a lot of LPG users on here. Better we put effort into that than try and take it on ourselves.

I don't know which one is best so perhaps we should look at that, maybe Phil could partner with one of these sites.

I have spent the last hour on S4S, myLPG.eu and Filllpg trying to find lpg on my route south A1(m) M11. M25 it’s been hard work most say lpg no longer available and the rest haven’t been updated since 2021 I’ve found 2 in a nearly 300 mile trip so will have to ring them to check so yes I thought a list of ones members had actually used in the past few months would be helpful or at least would be to me.

It would be a lot of work for Phil sifting out the ones that no longer do lpg and as I have said all the ones already out there don’t delete them when the stop doing lpg they just put no longer available surely it’s easier just to remove them I find it frustrating to click on one just to read no longer availabl.

If Mylpg.eu and similar sites aren't really working, is it worthwhile having a small series of pinned Threads, 'LPG in Midlands/SW England/SE England/East Anglia/North of England/NE England/Scotland/Wales' or similar? Members could then add 'visited Morrisons Kirkcaldy last week. LPG available 79.7p per litre' or similar [see Wully's post re Whiteinch LPG suppliers]. This would be current info, easily accessible and of great benefit in planning trips off a Member's 'own turf'

Steve

Here you go Annie, I just called, LPG on tap.

Perhaps this thread can be made a sticky, which members can add/delete when appropriate, save Phill the hassle.

That wasn't what I was suggesting. I think we decide which is the best "external" resource from the various LPG / autogas sites and agree to be a bit more proactive ourselves updating that but pick one. Phil if he likes could promote it with a link or sticky and maybe the lpg site could link back to here but regardless of that our time would be better spent updating one source where the functionality with a map etc is already there.

The issue with a list in a thread is it becomes unsearchable very quickly. For me personally I just want to look at a map and find two or three stations on my route or near to it. If I click on it and find someone on here has validated it recently I'll be more confident it's working when I arrive.

It may even be possible to update the POIs direct from whatever site is used Barry. If that’s possible.

I used to be considered an expert on data warehouses and the like, and was often paid to lead seminars on the subject. .

Basics that I emphasised were
a) Single source of information.
If information is held in more than one location then people will spend time & effort arguing which is correct rather than using the information.
There are already several sources of LPG data and a thread in this group would just make the situation worse.

b) Data Lifecycle (as per Wildbus)
Most people put their effort into designing data collection processes
Maintenance and weeding are equally important.
There is no reason to believe that the maintenance and weeding of data would be better than the apps.
Indeed, given the smaller number of contributors it would probably be worse.

c) Collection vs Use
Most data is used by people other than the collector.
It is important to provide motivation for the collectors to do it well.
Because we are a compact group with a common interest it is likely that people would contribute to support fellow members.
But experience indicates that this would only be a short term effect.

The LPG apps have a date last updated. I take this into account when using the app. I have also been known to check the outlets web site.
If there is only a single source of information who is to say that source is correct.

Regarding pumps disappearing from fore courts. I suspect the calendar must take some of the blame in these straightened times All LPG equipment has a limited life before it either needs inspecting and re certification and or replacing. Both of which can be major investments. Intervals can be as little as 10 years or less.

Vendors therefore must continually have to do return for investment sums. It is inevitable that many will decide to pack it in. And others to look for expansion.

I think someone pointed out earlier that Phil didn't want to do that as the info was already in place on those LPG sites and readily available which kind of makes sense.

I think in this scenario, it would be more sensible if a member could roughly outline a trip with a request for information on availability. Given the size of membership on here I should imagine someone could give reasonably up to date location(s) and availability which would be valid at that time and for that route. So you end up with a more relevant thread.

Yes I’ve already had a couple of pms telling me where still have it on my route south as the one I normally use is tempor out of stock awaiting delivery.

I just had a quick look at myLPG.eu and found 2 stations close to the A1 and the M11 both last confirmed 10/08/23. Morrisons at Camborne is half way between the A1 and M11 so I would stay on the A1 and then cut across to the M11 via the A428 visiting Morrisons on the way. I didn’t like the myLPG app until recently but now it seems to be kept much more up to date. @campervanannie have you got the latest app update, with yours showing no updates since 2021 it makes me wonder.
