LPG Gaslow, tank kits and other alternatives ooop North

I run a 15 kg underslung gas tank which I had to replace last year.As you can see I fitted a large stone guard unlike the last bottle I gave this bottle 2 coats of zinc primer 3 coats of stone chip and 1 coat of red so it should last a lot longer.

I considered one but they don't really take more than a couple of bottles would but the main thing that put me off was the cost of the Alko kit. Eyewatering expensive. I suppose they do leave your gas locker free though. Its just a shame that Swift on such a huge van put in such a tiny gas locker. The one on the old Kontiki was massive.

It must be so that you have more space inside, but seriously, it's a stupid move.
 
I remember. I checked the locker though. Still wouldnt be big enough but not by much. Useless sods.
You have to remember for most folks 1 x 6kg bottle will last a years worth of trips (probably 4 weeks worth of weekends/2 week stints)
Hooked up to en suite electric 24/7

Same reason most vans come with 1 x battery and no or little solar
And 3 way fridges ....

They don't envisage people using them for extended periods away from services .

That's why a lot of us self build and/or spend time money on adapting/modifying them to suit our useage .
 
If I cut the ring off the top I could get a 11kg in beside a 6kg with a wider door.
Jigsaw with a fresh blade = job done (don't cut too close to the welds to preserve the integrity of the bottle )
H + S nazis would freak ...but it would be fine barring come re test time
 
Not sure you could even get in with a jig saw, possibly why I did use a disc, but it was easy enough I probably took a good hour to do it so it cooled down between cuts.

I've done it many times with redundant refrigerant bottles to scrap them (scrap folks are picky with intact bottles due to them being pressure vessels )

Slice and dice to handle off and hammer the brass valve gear off ....

Job done .

Actually the GasIt ones are best as they only have a carrying handle do cut off not a bloody great ring, and they are exactly the same otherwise.

Yes I suppose so but they must realise many go off touring Europe for months on end often off grid. Well maybe they don't. I realise there are a total posts pandemic breed of motorhomers that seem to hop from one campsite to another most of working age though.
