LPG Gaslow, tank kits and other alternatives ooop North

I agree, my diesel heater isn’t noisy, either of them. Ones am Eberspacher and the other is a Maxpeedingrods Chinese one. You need silencers on exhaust and intake for best results

I'm open to everything. One step at a time though I think. Got the right van it seems after a decade of searching, just needs the fine tuning now. Find out what works and what doesn't. Another reason to go Lithium and more solar. We can probably get away with it for now but down the line who knows? What I would like to see is a compressor fridge that also works off gas.
Unlikely to see a fridge with gas/compressor
As unfortunately they aren't really interchangeable due to the differing type of refrigerants ...
BUT yup it's always fine tuning as we all have different needs ...

I was disappointed when we shifted from the self build Transit jumbo ...to the moho as it was so backwards (basically a caravan glued on the back of a chassis cab )
Few years on and it's finally what we want/need ...
Though I'm always tinkering lol

I remember the Eberspacher heaters from my boating days. Not that noisy but I do remember being freezing cold in February on a yacht (not mine) when we came back from the pub and it taking an age to get warm. It was severely cold mind. Anything that has an easy source of fuel has to be best really.

I knew I'd taken a video of my install Barry, I just came across it, this show why you don't need to go to a fitter for the same system I have, you only need one fitting as mentioned up thread somewhere, the POL fitting.

Interesting that you have resurrected this thread Kev as I was thinking about this the other day. I think Im going to get Charlie at Autogas 2000 to fit a second Gaslow bottle for Europe this year and take out the Calor but ill need to be able to swap one of them back to the Calor for the UK. Charlie was of the opinion that it would be best for them to do it but moving forward I would like to do it myself. I seem to remember he reckoned it was not that straight forward

As you can see from both videos it's not rocket science, of course you do need a leak spray but I'd not run a mobile gas system without one and for less than a tenner it a good safety item.

I'm not knocking Thirsk even though I feel they vastly overcharged me for what they did, but it is their job to sell you stuff, maybe more than you need.

Intriguing. No need to turn off the Gaslow bottle before disconnecting the POL fitting?

I think Nabs or Rob told Charlie I was feckin useless with a spanner and stitched me up. 😁

You don't remove the pol fitting but yes you would turn the gas off normally when changing bottles regardless of type, in the video I didn't mention it as I wasn't actually doing that only showing the fittings needed really.

The video was intended just for Liz as she asked what I'd been doing, it took me two days as it was awkward for me, I'm not up to editing it and adding a voice over to cover turning off the gas, or putting it on screen, no idea about that kind of thing.

Leak spray is a necessity IMHO ....

Obviously work pays for mine ;-)

BUT a trigger spray with some soapy water is fine .

I spray all the connections each time I fill up just to make sure everything is gas tight .

@barryd you will need a number one and a number two cylinder when you fit two refillable. Cylinders are all the same but on the fill side one has an elbow and the other has a tee. The one you have fitted should have an elbow so will become number two, new cylinder will need the tee, fill pipe tee tee to elbow. Then its just connecting the pigtail to reg.

I hardly ever touch my gas except for refilling it, I go to Charlie but it's only around 90 minutes trip and I have a catch up. With some of the things you to either make sure you have life insurance topped up or go to Charlie :)

TBH Steve, after seeing it done by a "professional" and then seeing what a "professional" mess it was when I smelled gas a few days later, I decided if I couldn't do a better and neater job, then I'd stick with Calor.

My video shows how simple it is, of course, you need to have a few DIY skills, but drilling the hole was the scariest bit and you can see that I had started another in the video but decided it was in the wrong place, then it's just assembly, fit the POL connector securely to the bottles outlet point, then one pipe securely tightened from the filler to the bottle inlet once you get your head around how the filler point goes together (for a single bottle) like the Krypton fact til you've done one, partially fill with gas, and leak test all the fittings including the Gaslow, and regulator ones, and that's it.

The only place not having the Calor would be a total disaster would be the Scottish Islands really. Anywhere else in the UK it would just be an inconvenience. So its likely if I get a second Gaslow fitted ill try and make it work so I don't have to swap one of them back. In theory two six KG bottles should last four weeks off grid minimum in summer.
