:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I'll post details when I know them. ;)👍

Housesitting friend has made some preliminary suggestions. Haven't started looking at ferries just yet. Also it's around Easter time, so I maybe need to think about heading over there a little earlier.... how annoying (not!) ... ;)👏😊

Think I need a GB sticker for the van as a first on the list of prep.
Anything else anyone is aware of that I might need, please feel free to suggest away to your heart's content! 🙏 🤗
Scotland sticker wid be bettur.

Google "Johnny Foxes Pub."
In the hills, south of Dublin.
Good parking near the helicopter pad.
It's where they take visiting VIPs in blacked out Merc minibuses

The outside looks a treat and the inside is fantastic.
Great food, drink and Craic.

Music in various rooms. Every night. .
Saturday night is the full Irish cabaret and banquet.
Sunday night is a less starstruck one, but cheaper.
We were stuck there by foul weather and stayed for 4 nights.
I asked to reserve the weekend for a month's time, to fit in with our return ferry..

We walked in and the receptionist said, " How are ye , where did you go, did you have fun .?
They sneaked us in for both shows, free, after eating at a different room.
Can't recommend it enough.

Johnny Foxes was another one we always headed to when in Dublin on Business. Cracking place. The Blue Lamp was another one I think.

Have to say I wasn't impressed.
Hundreds of tourists bussed in like cattle , fed canteen food and lots of oirishness .

Being brought up near the fleshpots of Barnard Castle will have given Barry a taste for that sort of thing … 😜 😉🤣🤣🤣

Hopefully there’s still plenty of lovely pubs out in the sticks with mainly locals and not too many tourists about. Who knows. It’s been well over 30 years since I visited… 🤷‍♀️

Lol! It was somewhere our Irish Reps used to take us when we were over there in the late 90s early noughties. Maybe its changed but we always had a good time but then I don't think I've ever been to any pub anywhere in Ireland and not had a good time. Well apart from getting chased through Temple Bar by a murderous Mongolian chef but that's another story. Even that was funny though.

Was taken there about 20 years ago Barry. It is certainly a slick operation and , tbf , it does what it says on the tin . Suspect it's evolved from a quaint country pub .
For me just a tourist trap . Think Marie will find plenty genuine , cosy pubs on her travels .
Not sure if she'll come across any murderous , Mongolian chefs though!

We found Johnny Foxes horribly touristy too though you can stay in their car park.

I still have Mucho Russell's c.d. All those auld fellas and ladies were great weren't they.

If you do go Donegal then Teach Hiúdai Beag's nr Bundoran is a great locals music pub. (Lovely wildcamp spot by beach a couple of hundred yards away. It feature on TV programme Crà). Glencolmcille also good for proper trad.

Trev forgot to mention the Famine Village. One of his best recommendations. It's unique! Can't remember where it is.

Matt Malloy of the Chieftains has a pub in Westport near you with trad. A bit precious but always excellent musicians.

You can't just leave it like that! What happened? Was he angry because you broke his bed? ;)

First time I was in Limerick, wandering around the time and needed a wee so went into a pub. Sawdust on the floor and two women fighting (and properly going at it) with people just carrying on as if it were an everyday occurrence. I now know it likely was!
Used to go to Limerick around once a month and we always went to "Durty Nellie's" at least once each time. Touristy a bit but excellent Chowder.
Had a great line from a cabby on way back to airport one time ... "Been to Ted's?" (Ted's is a local nightclub).
"nah".
"Ye should go. If ye can't pull at Ted's, yer dead already" :D

Oh alright then.

In my last "Proper" job in the late 90s me and mad Trevor got sent over to Dublin for a week to sort out the IT systems in the franchise centres we had there. Basically a trip to Dublin was always treated as total Jolly. Trevor was completely bat sh*t crazy of course and whenever we got teamed up it always ended in some calamity or other. First of all Wales were playing Ireland so Temple Bar was full of Welsh and Irish rugby fans. We were in one rowdy bar where about sixty drunk Welsh fans were singing some Welsh song or other at the tops of their voices. They got to the end and Trevor shouted "I thought you Taffies could sing!". That was when I first thought we were going to die. There was a pause and the the Welsh rugby fans decided it was really funny and fell about laughing. That was my first brown trouser moment of the evening.

The finale though was when Trev decided we would go to a Mongolian eatery where the novelty was to make your own dinner. You basically picked all your ingredients yourself and it got cooked. It was chaos. Food everywhere and the concoctions Trev selected were disgusting. He wound up the Chef throughout and then without warning started flicking bits of food at him when his back was turned for a joke. Some of the staff twigged and then Trev decided it was time to leave, dragged me out and shouted "Leg it!". :D So off we ran through Temple bar but by this time the rather mean and large looking Chef had had enough and came after us still with his meat cleaver in hand. :D I guess we were both pretty fit and young then so he was no match for us and we eventually found our Welsh friends again and hid amongst them. Strength in numbers. I cant remember much after that.

Got notification of the dates yesterday for my house sitting gig in County Mayo, so, if all goes well, me and the old camper will be heading out to Belfast on the ferry early April for a few weeks 😃👌👏

Likely to be travelling on my own if Neil doesn’t want to, or isn’t able to come.

This will be my first time ever in Norn Ireland and first time ever in County Mayo 😳🫣🤞👍👌
You will love the west coast Wild Atlantic Way.
