Ireland visit - yay!

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I'll post details when I know them. ;)👍

Housesitting friend has made some preliminary suggestions. Haven't started looking at ferries just yet. Also it's around Easter time, so I maybe need to think about heading over there a little earlier.... how annoying (not!) ... ;)👏😊

Think I need a GB sticker for the van as a first on the list of prep.
Anything else anyone is aware of that I might need, please feel free to suggest away to your heart's content! 🙏 🤗
The Northern Island Coast Road is a good way to head West. Co. Mayo is (IMO) the nicest part of Ireland so you should love it.

If you are passing Rathlin Is. (in NI) on you way, you should nip over and have a look. This was my old home there for a while when I went to stay with my dad in the mid-1980's ...
Of course it is a bit different to when I was there ... We didn't have electricity (seriously) and water was direct off the hills for the bath (including the odd frog coming through the pipe) and well water for drinking.

Pretty sure you don't need a UK sticker for NI or the republic. northern Ireland is part of Britain and I don't think it's required over the border either.

Get one anyway, I got a kit off Amazon two UK and four Number plate ones, not just for Ireland, I have the Ecosse sticker on there too.

No sticker required for N Ireland as it is part of UK . A lack of sticker in roi is unlikely to draw attention as a large proportion of N.I. cars are brought in from G.B. and cross the border regularly.
Might be worth looking at your insurance for Roi, although it should offer the same cover as EU visits. Breakdown cover might be worth checking on for Roi.
In the south the only issues you will encounter are disposal of rubbish where bins are scarce.
Money is the biggest issue. Plenty of ATMs but likely to be charged and have a poor exchange rate, so I would suggest you check to see if your bank offers decent exchange rates on purchases. I use a Starling bank account with a euro account. I also have a chase bank account which has good exchange rates.
I live in Newcastle, county Down at the foot of the Mourne mountains, not really on your route, but if you end up nearby, let me know, although we are away from 10th April to 28th May so unlikely.

I'm advised by my friend in Ireland to get the sticker, apparently they were told they needed one on their Brit registered car when they first moved to ROI last June. They bought it en route to the ferry! 😁

It's only a sticker, so no big deal getting one for the van either way I guess 🤷‍♀️

It will increase the load weight though Marie. Best to get the MH weighed before and after applying the sticker.

Don't forget the scarf.

In Ireland? You having a laugh?!! :ROFLMAO: 😂😁

Most paddies can talk hind legs off more donkeys than I ever could in a lifetime, Ral - but their story telling is in a different league to mine, so I will be mostly keeping the gob shut and listening attentively - well, that's the plan, but you already know the one about mice and men..... ;) :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::cool:

An Chonair, is simply great Ginge, there’s a 2 tonne weight limit, but it’s not enforced.

We used to take it from Tralee to Dingle a lot, went over it just last last July

Some bandits around or over the border wont like a uk sticker and not required, your no plate is good to as there are many uk reg cars n & south.
if you require a tail gunner im your man. 😂
Depends on what part of the county you are going to, and what way from Belfast, may have some tips, may be PG mind you. 😂

If you find the cheapest crossing can you post it. Don't matter what part of the uk it goes from.

Do vis Donegal town if possable, waterside c park for vans and cheap as chips, old friery just round the path, many good eating places in town, also the castle to see & old railway musame, few good nicknac shops.

Not keen on Donegal Town personally.
If there is one place I would definately make a point of visiting is Westport, which handily IS in Co. Mayo (y)

(Not been to the Island of Ireland for nearly 20 years though. Used to go every couple of months in the 90's. In the naughties quite a few times, most recently for Funerals :( )
