I think luck comes into it a lot with the various manufacturers but not sure why. You find people with an old low cost van that have never had a problem with either hab or chassis/engine/cab then someone spends over £100k and has endless problems.
Other than Bonnet respray( I wanted it to look better not worse ) I did the repairs myself, so cost are just parts. . Thinking back to the previous one, 2005 x240 chassis I can't recall any repair at all in about 30k miles 5yrs., thou the clutch thrust bearing was rattling when I bought it and still when I sold it .
We've got a fiat 500 auto ,duologic, easiest way to describe it is it's like someone driving a car and they're just not much good at changing gear.Guess they're the same
Agree completely about the front dinette waste of space , not comfortable to lounge at unless you have two captains chairs that can reach it, which usually means compromise somewhere else.

select (champagne) 122 owner and driver here, our is manual because I hate automatics but apart from that it does exactly what you ask. It's much better than the newer carrera version for storage etc. Fab van. If I were rich I might got for the Warwick duo (not xl) for apparent better build quality - but then I'd have to take out the microwave and do something about it's wardrobe. - the wardrobe in the 122 makes a fab pantry
