If thinking bout heading to Arran, check ferry availability.

Fixed, usual BBC Scot propaganda anti Scot Gov. Back in service
Hello, I used the BBC link as I give them more credibility to other news outlets, perhaps I am naive? Further reports of repairs by divers are sketchy, see following.

"A dive team were deployed to find and repair the crack, which was discovered on a weld seam.

A CalMac spokesperson said on Saturday: “Repairs to the hairline crack on a weld seam on MV Glen Sannox have been completed.

“A preliminary test indicates the welding has been successful, but a second test will be carried out tomorrow morning when the welded area has completely cooled." (C&P from Herald)

With divers involved, it is fair to say hull repaired on the outside at or near the water line, no mention of any internal hot work undertaken? Unless pre and post weld heat treatment was required, the weld would cool fairly rapid. There is a real smell about this, vessel in, repaired, then back on duty within 24/48hrs, I wonder which agency signed the repair off, so quickly??

I really feel sorry for those employed at the Ferguson yard, a yard founded 1903, and now it looks like the death knell for the yard with the smaller calmac ferry build contract going to a Polish yard.

I could add more factual facts, but this would be deemed political, lets hope the Glen Sannox troubles are over?

Hadn't realised the ferry doesn't fit Androssen harbour, so until it receives a £80m upgrade the ferry sales via Troon.

Quite frankly this whole process is astounding, a ferry that should have cost £98 million, finished up costing £400 million, and they knew this new ferry would be too large for Ardrossan Harbour. They have been negotiating with the owners of the harbour for over ten years, and they’re still negotiating. If they ever start the work it will take around three years to complete, costing £80-100 million meanwhile the local economy in Ardrossan has been devastated, and those living on the island are forced to travel further to a harbour unsuited to the service in Troon. They have to supply a bus from Troon harbour to the train station which is so far away, the Train used to go right in to Ardrossan Harbour. You could not write the script, you really couldn’t.
The old ferries could take approx 85 vehicles, the new one approx 120.
As a lesson in joined up lateral thinking from start to finish this has been disgraceful, and no one has been brought to justice. To make matters worse Ferguson’s Shipyard went bankrupt building the two ferries and had to be bailed out by the Scottish government to the tune of around £40 million.

All of the new ferries on order are being built in Turkey, Ferguson’s have failed to get any further orders from the Scottish government. Heads should have rolled, but none did, and there will be no enquiry.

Big fire on Arran at the moment. Not sure if its been put out yet. Avoid Glen Rosa and Goat fell if you are heading there.

The local Asda will definitely take a huge financial hit, Bill. Also, there are issues with both harbours struggling to facilitate LPG for the hybrid ferry.

Total shambles……you can add £12 million to the count, this was for the small ferry that runs from Oban to Craiganure on Mull. Bought from the Noggies, who are replacing their ferry fleet with all electric vessels. The purchase was to bolster tge Mull run during breakdowns with other fleet vessels.
