how much!

Back in 2008 after an overnight trip to Brugges for the Christmas Markets on the following morning when we got up the left hand headlight was exactly like yours, when we'd parked up it was fine, spoke to the German Hymer dealer who had originally supplied the motorhome and he sent a new one out after I'd emailed pictures of the damaged one, it was replaced under warranty, on the same trip when driving past a Belgian Hymer dealer there were 6 A class Hymers in their yard all with the same headlight missing so it appeared to us that there was a problem with the left hand headlights, the following year at a truck race meeting at Nurburgring I got talking to a guy on the Hella stand, he came and had a look at the vehicle and said that they'd had a lot of them breaking always the left hand one, gave me his card and said if it happens again ring him and he'd supply me a new one at less than half the Hymer price. We never had another one break in the 11 years we owned it.

This kind of thing really annoys me. Hymer motorhomes are expensive for two reasons, their build quality, and their reputation. From what I am reading here they don't deserve the reputation attributed to them. You would think they would do a recall on these, or at least highlight the issue offering replacements as required outwith accidents of course.

But it highlights another issue when buying an A class, who is responsible. I currently own a Roller Team A class, and quite frankly I would never buy another.
I have had three issues and each time I was referred to Fiat, who in turn rightly pointed out this was a converter issue. The drivers door window would not close, they stated that was a fiat issue. Eventually I had to get it fixed myself. I did manage however manage to get my £60 back after hassle. The catch on the bonnet door fell apart and I had to get it welded back together, and the central locking on the door went faulty. Roller team supplied the fuse box, the cabling, the central locking mechanism, and the door, yet they stated it was a fiat issue, again I had to get it fixed myself. I was told a new windscreen costs £4,000 and it could take months to arrive. A mirror would cost £850 and again could take months to arrive. When buying an A class some thought should be given to these issues. But I do see why so many love them.

I was told once when I looked at getting LED headlights that they were illegal unless factory fitted but never had it confirmed.

I'll contact Autobulbs direct and see if I can get some for mine thanks.
LED/HID replacements SHOULDN'T pass an MOT unless the whole headlamp unit is swapped (and complies with other conditions ...washers/auto levelling etc )

Don't expect the same life from these extra bright bulbs, (Osram Night Breakers, Philips Racing Vision etc) as standard bulbs. I'd say my last Night Breaker 200% have a life about half standard bulb. The previous ones, Next Generation 150% lasted longer than the 200% by a fair margin. Not sure the 200% are worth the extra cost over the Next Generation bulbs.

I have h4 130w/90w bulbs fitted main lights, great for doing my toast on. 😂
Then the spots< top and bottom> have 100w bulbs with 4 inner lamps on leds, lights the dark roads up here like daylight.View attachment 114234
Candles Trev.
Get a decent LED light bar, bung it on roof and get some nice cool air onto the radiator. :p:)

The round LED lights on bumper are pretty good too.

I thought it was bad getting a mirror for ours, First quote £919 second quote £ 745

You could get some top quality aftermarket lights for far less.

Mine have got position lights, DRL's , side marker, indicators and dip and main beam all in one neat light.
I could get two UK and two EU lights for that money. Sorted :)

When Chrysler voyager was sold for the second time to fiat all prices rocketed and delivery delay came in! 100 days for a sliding nearside Mopro was the best. Front Brake pads went from £37 to £ 86 main dealer price , when Mercedes sold to fiat! I would never buy anything from them especially if I relied on it !....
. Mercedes went to usa buying chryser and accountants made the voygers cheap looking to us 2003. fiat just carried that on..

dont trust fiat pension sceem neither. If digital currency comes in the UK.!

IF it was me facing this issue ...

I'd buy 2 sets of headlamp protectors ....

Then remove the mounts from one ...
Seperate the broken glass from the damaged headlight unit and clean the sealant ...
Trial fit the protector and adjust if necessary THEN
Bond on with sikaflex etc and
THEN fit the second protector on top
A to prevent future damage
B to hide the redundant mounting holes in the one you've used as a lens .

Might be a mad idea BUT it might just work .

You wouldn’t need to fit two protectors. I lost one of mine even though it had 4 suckers and additional cable ties. You can see these in my photo in post 2. The photo was on a wet day, so the picture doesn’t quite do the fitting justice.

I had a replacement set cut and drilled by a local sign maker £18 for the 2 in 2 mm polycarbonate. He used the remaining one as a template. I could have made a template in card (or similar) with or without the holes for the sticker, so I believe your solution is quite viable. In fact I think there was a member on the HOG Facebook group who was doing just as you suggest. I can’t recall if he offered it as a service to members.
