Me? They first found something at a CT scan last year on a routine old git test. From that to having the op was twelve months I think, may have run to 13. They do quite a few different tests in between though to see how bad (or not you are). When I had the echocardiogram they had the cardio registrar down grilling me for about an hour, didn’t believe I had no symptoms and was going to keep me in. Aorta valve was at 60% whatever that means.

Did have appointments cancelled and first op date cancelled on admission day but if they get an emergency they obviously work on them. Think I was the only one not getting annoyed by it but there is no point, I would want to be put first if it was an emergency so all fair 👍.

Initially I was hanging around close to the house as they hadn’t given me any idea of date, just said it would be asap. Soon got fed up with that though and was back out and about in the van as usual just coming back for appointments.
 
Do any of you use the NHS app. It gives loads of personal details..
I've been waiting a while to see a specialist, on the app it tells me to wait until 31 oct before phoning them.

Do you have 6 monthly checks?, they found mine years ago but it was only around 2cm and increased very gradually until my last one which must have been larger than 5.5cm as that’s when they plan your OP, I was in next day and out within 4 days so dodged another bullet I think.

Mine was 3.2 cm, so I will have to wait my turn in the queue and have an annual check, not 6 monthly. I had an ultrasound after having a nasty bladder infection which took some shifting. Thats when they found it.

I don't hold out much hope of intervention because I belong to that dreadful group of people called 'smokers'. Sod them, I still intend to smoke my 2 cigarettes a day and hang the consequences. :giggle:

Bear in mind that Papworth hospital is no longer at Papworth but is part of the Addenbrookes complex but not too far from where it was.

My wife used to work at Papworth, a shame it had to move, but Addenbrookes is an excellent place to be treated.

I was impressed with Hull. Surgeon I got only opened up approx 4” for open heart surgery instead of the usually 12” cut 👍 my consultant was the only person offering that though, think it’s fairly new but this has been my only experience so who knows :)

Stay at home, you will have problems getting Travel/Health insurance . The EHIC does not cover repatriation if needed. From https://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=559

  • is not an alternative to travel insurance. It does not cover any private healthcare or costs such as a return flight to your home country or lost/stolen property,
  • does not cover your costs if you are travelling for the express purpose of obtaining medical treatment,
  • does not guarantee free services. As each country’s healthcare system is different services that cost nothing at home might not be free in another country."

For many years now the NHS has had to deal with the aftermath of of 'cheap' overseas surgeries, not all will end in tears, but with more going abroad for treatment the numbers having problems are ever increasing.

My problem was I couldn’t get a dentist. Most areas in this country are in the same position. I waited 3 years while keep ringing round, it was only when the heart consultant wrote me a letter to give them that I eventually manèges to get one.

One of my granddaughters had to take her son from Hull to Scarborough last week for an emergency appointment. Absolutely criminal what mismanagement has done to the NHS

And it's the staff at the sharp end that take the backlash.

I'm guessing you mean 'couldn't get a NHS dentist', my NHS dentist left her practice last year, it took me about 9 months to find another NHS dentist, meanwhile I had some work done privately which cost about twice the NHS. Whilst I was at the new dentist someone rang up, they where informed that as they hadn't attended in over two years they where off the NHS books, and the waiting list for 'new' NHS patients was now closed.

Yeah those websites and NHS111 don’t get you to a dentist in Hull. Sometimes you may be be able to get a private dentist but last time I rang round they weren’t taking on.

What has made things worse is people who had a dentist got cancelled during the pandemic. When the pandemic was over they found they wer dropped form their dentist because they hadn’t had an appointment in 6 months. I know an awful lot of people all over England who have had this happen and they are struggling to get treatment.
