Has anyone found a Petrol Price website that actually works?

SWMBO has just bought a new car. Returning from a long trip she wanted to find the real achievable range on one tank of fuel. Se we had driven into town and declined filling it up wanting to wait for the low fuel warning. By the time we got back to out local town, we again declined to fill up.

Next trip out we were sure it would need filling, but didn't want to make a detour to the station we knew was cheap, so I tried a couple of petrol price websites. It showed me 2 on our route were cheap. at 132p per litre. So we passed both and I say passed, because they were in fact 139p The gallon of fuel in the can was used.

So that is a lot of ramble to ask do any of these fuel price websites actually publish up to date and believable prices? If not they are a complete waste of space and bytes.

If you know one that works and reliably publishes correct prices please share it with us.

Yes, all of these work for me on Android.

The first one on that list PetrolPrices is the one that spectacularly failed, telling me 2 stations close to me were 132p (it even said checked today) and when we passed them, they were in fact 139p Oh and they didn't suddenly go up in price between checking and getting to the station, I checked again later and it was still saying 132p.

I guess nobody has updated them and it's a regional problem? But if that is the case it should be honest and say when last update, not tell lies and say it was updated today. By publishing those wrong prices it has lost all credability with me.

Weird, I just tried to check locally, I have never had to log in or be asked to subscribe, what have you done to it??? :D :D :D

I found that petrol prices app was quite hit and miss, so I stopped using it, besides there are 2 fuel stations about 10 miles from me that are consistently the cheapest, so not really an issue.
The app seemed (like the POA map on here) to rely on people updating prices. I did so for a period of time, but only the diesel price as that was relevant to me. The app was a bit temperamental and so after many occasions were it did not accept my update, I gave up.
I occasionally look at the prices on the myrac app, and I understand the Daily Mail has launched a website showing prices, but it does not cover every outlet, just the big chains.

For several European countries FuelFlash is hard to beat.

FWIW, I've found PetrolPrices pretty good. However, you have to know how to use that app as it contains a lot of stale data. Also, it relies in part upon user input and I suspect that data isn't verified. Each PetrolPrices entry tells you both who supplied the data (forecourt owner or operator; or a PetrolPrices user) and also the date on which that data was supplied. Obviously, you need to treat any data more than a couple of days old with suspicion and there is a greater likelihood of user-supplied data being incorrect than data from a forecourt operator as the latter are more likely to update their prices on the app at about the same time as they do on the actual forecourt...

I need to dig deeper, All I saw was the price and a statement along the lines of "last verified today"

I stand corrected. It was Petrol map I was trying before that proved unreliable. Petrol Prices does look to be better so I will try that and see if it does match reality.

Petrol here £1.24 and i must say never fill a tank above half way as you burn more fuel lugging the extra about.

I use the first one on the list, petrol prices .I always check when the prices were updated ,usually the owner or manager does it. I only use Shell ,both petrol and diesel it`s suprising how the prices vary in my area and how much you can save. Example super unleaded 6 shell garages £148.9 to £164.9. 😲

Latency is inevitable no matter which app you use and so there is always the chance that the prices on the forecourt won't match what an app says. Hence it's worthwhile checking over a few weeks for an area you know you'll need fuel to find out which filling stations are more likely to be cheaper. (Just sayin')

In this country I use the RAC app.
You can't blame them if a tanker has arrived in the last 24 hours and the price has changed.

Can't say that I have ever used a Petrol price website and probably never will. (Well I do drive a Diesel!).

I would hate to have to plan my journeys on where the fuel is cheapest and I certainly wouldn't drive out of my way (burning more fuel) just to get it cheaper. The only thing I do stick to is not to buy it at Motorway services and if others look to be way over the top then I drive on to the next one.

FWIW, both my car and my van are diesels. I don't go out of my way (well, not far) to get cheaper fuel. However, if I know I'll be in the vicinity of several filling stations over a few days and can choose the cheapest at which to fill up, I do just that.
