Has anyone found a Petrol Price website that actually works?

Costco was 1.29.9 on Sunday. 1.44 Dundee and similar in Aberdeen but saw it around 134.00 at Morrison's on the way back doon the road.

FWIW, both my car and my van are diesels. I don't go out of my way (well, not far) to get cheaper fuel. However, if I know I'll be in the vicinity of several filling stations over a few days and can choose the cheapest at which to fill up, I do just that.

I tend to use Supermarkets or service stations close to Supermarkets if they're en route, they are usually much of a muchness. Other than that I just take what comes but as I say not if it's way over the top.

No, but you CAN blame the first one I tried Petrol map, that said it was checked today when clearly it was not.
I'm sorry, I don't understand this comment.

My point was that the price could be £1.50 at 9am and £1.55 at 10am if they had a tanker delivery at 9:30am.

Most fuel companies give price support. As an independently owned fuel station you have an agreed area and report the competitors prices within it to your oil company. If they give you price support you can drop your prices to match or undercut the competition. The oil company owned sites also watch the local prices and set theirs accordingly.
My memory is a bit rusty here. It's 40 odd years since I managed fuel stations.

We tend to use supermarket fuel stations, preferably Tesco to get points for the tunnel. It's worth a detour of a few miles when it costs around £100 for a full tank.

Can't find any app called petrol map.
This one https://petrolmap.co.uk/

Okay not an app but a website. If it worked and gave reliable results I would have looked at ways to get it to work on a mobile phone, but never got that far as it gave wildly wrong prices while claiming they were checked today.

And to those that say ah the price could have changed 5 minutes after they checked it, no it is STILL saying a low price checked today several days after I confirmed it was a higher price and I re confirmed that just yesterday, so not it has not been checked lately but the "wrong" bit is they are saying checked today.

Try the RAC app, I think they state that prices are reported on a daily basis.

I like to use Supermarkets because they are usually in the lower price range Sharon and you can also usually pay by card and so get on the way a bit quicker.

What I have found though with service stations that have a sign outside showing very cheap fuel prices is that you often have to queue - and this really annoys me. Sometimes when you are next in line at a pump and the person in front goes in to pay and whilst they are in there they do a weekly shop and then get back to the car and take 5 minutes to actually leave the pump.

But the other annoying thing with some 'cheap' service stations is that when you drive in after being tempted by the cheap price on the signage, a lot of the pumps are premium fuel only. I'm sure they do this because they think by the time you have queued for a pump you will be past caring when you actually get to it and fill up anyway.

I love Pay at Pump. If you don't like people doing their shopping avoid Locks Garage on the A465 south of Hereford. There are still some farmers who use it for their weekly shop. Having said that, it does seem to sell everything you've ever wanted.

I was exaggerating a tad when I said 'weekly shop' Sharon, but you know what I mean. And then of course they have to queue at the till which is busy because of the attraction of cheap fuel. :(

...and another thing!

Why do people pay at the pump and then wander into the shop without vacating the pump first!

Thanks Dave, never even heard of that one, no app anyway that I could find, so I'd not use that over an app.

As Rob said, avoid motorway, mayor trunk route pumps and go just go to the supermarkets and you'll be near enough not to pay over the top. If I had to check an app before buying fuel I'd get an EV!

Where these apps are useful, is on a long journey and want to avoid inflated motorway services prices, but lack the local knowledge to find a supermarket not far from a motorway junction for example.

useful for LPG/GPL Julian.
Yeah I do use it to check LPG availability, saving a wasted trip 👍, seems to be more about getting it than the cost nowadays.

I'm in France ATM and just off to get wood for our wood burners, 40€ M. cube , no app for it but it's a hot day to be hand loading the trailer 😁 🥵🥵
