Good news

CAMpRA keep telling councils that ehu points are not needed on these places, as safe overnight parking and waste points are what we need.
Here in S Wales, SWMBO does a bit of assessing/inspecting of potential aires for CAMPRA. She always has to tell the landowners that ehu is just not necessary. Those new to the concept are quite surprised when she shows them all the van facilities.

The last paragraph is the main point for posting.

The Bridge Inn Whorlton We offer free stop overs in our carpark on the basis you come and dine with us. We are in a fantastic location for country walks along the Teasdale way.
We are located 3 mile from barnard castle town centre.

We do have a waste disposal for all camper & Motorhomes. We do not have separate toilet facilities other than the use of the pub.

We are dog friendly.

Serving Delicious home cooked food Wednesday-Saturday 5pm -8pm

Unfortunately at the moment we don't allow Sunday stop over as we close early due to the colder weather. Subject to change as the seasons do.

Kind regards Tracey

Looks like Scotlands Stay the Night might be starting up again for 2023

That’s good but cannot find any other info other than it will run from April to October but no list of sites/car parks yet.

Just seen this on another site
❗️US IT OR LOSE IT ❗

Successful businessman and struggling landlord has created the perfect Aire in the true tradition.

Even though he is not a motorhomer and has never visited an aire over the last 12 years since taking over the business he has cleared the land behind the pub levelled it all created hard hard standing and a lovely beer garden and a toilet and shower facility. There is also an area for tents. He also runs the local Flogas business so you replenish your bottles.

Overnight camping is free and all he asks is that you patronise the pub or make a donation. The facilities are immaculate and clean, way better than a lot I have paid for.

The pub is very warm and friendly as are staff and locals and the food is delicious.

He was unaware of Campaign for Real Aires UK - CAMpRA
So I have suggested he takes a look as he would like to add further facilities such as black waste, when funds permit.

John is a genuinely nice Lancashire guy, with an interests in his adopted Cornish community and lifeline to his customers that are dependant on his 7 day per week gas delivery service.

His pub like many others is struggling in the present climate and deserves all our support, especially as he refuses to go against his principles and start charging for camping facilities.

A breath of fresh air in current times.

If you are touring Cornwall be sure to call in and support his business. Perfectly situated for visiting Tintagel, Port Isaac and Padstow not to mention many others.

Dod friendly as well so Douglas was so at home. — in Delabole.

I don’t understand the pricing of these so called aires, in Europe many are free and sometimes including leccy! Even the smaller campsites are around the €10 mark

I use a lot of Aires in the EU but most of the free ones are very basic.

A few UK "Aires" are free, but most aren't.

The great thing is the range of places available in UK from wild camping / Aires / pubs (I once stayed at pub with free EHU) / CL or CS) / to commercial sites.
You decide what you want and pay from £0 to £50 per night.

a lot of these are not really aires but pubs that are hoping to recoup money they lost during covid but I know what you mean.

As this, many aires have been taken over by commercial companies who want to make a profit, same with cheap municipal campsites, quite a few have been sold or leased to private companies and prices have risen.
