Fuel duty rises: budget small print

Lets be clear on this, in 4 years time not everyone will be driving EV's, it's not until over 10 years before there are more EV's on the road than ICE, and it will be long after that before there are close to 100% EV's. Even then not everyone will be charging up everyday, and in the unlikely event every single person in the country plugged in at the same time all new chargers are designed to limit the charge if the grid is overloaded.
As for those who can't charge at home, well I have no idea how that will pan out, but someone will need to figure something out in the next 15 years.
Folk here change cars at 2 years old and very few want old cars except me, maybe 10%, so give 5 years which will be 2035 it better be sorted, dont think it will, we shall see, thats if im above ground by then. 😨

This chaps application refused by our delightful planning gurus. Note the applicants comment on the sparse local public chargers rarely work.

Personally, my work around if this were my application, would be to have a duct from house to a charge bollard, with no planning application for a duct required, I know this house, and the street on both sides of the village are not high footfall. but as you state Colin, residents trying to go down the EV route are struggling.

A quick google came up with this work around. You see similar every day at town centre construction works. Only required during charging process.

Where you have to use on street parking it's virtually certain you can't park in the same place every time . these cross pavement channels, ducts or whatever are totally useless if the cars down the road.

Body swerving the politics, fuel duty has to rise same as it always has, but now there’s other pressures on fossil fuels.

Supply, is getting more expensive as the countries that hold the resources are demanding higher prices.
The cost of running the country is going up not down.
Global warming is happening and whether or not EVs are the long term answer it’s what we have available now and any government will need to encourage the change. The infrastructure needs to improve and fossil fuels tax’s will be used to help pay for it, regardless of what any political party claim.
But increasing taxes will dampen demand and in turn, will reduce production as manufacturers respond to the lack of customer demand, making the growth that is needed to boost public services no more than a wistful dream. The extra money can be issued in parallel with more modest tax increases [especiallly wealth taxes on the assets & income of the very rich], leaving more money for the bulk of the population, who can provide the demand for the increased production that will generate the taxable profits that will finance public services and reduce Government debt over the medium to long term. It's what is advocated by the leading economists and, managed carefully, will not spook the markets, so will not lead to higher interest rates

100% correct, and kids will pull them out and nick the cables for scrap, many street chargers are vandalised here.

Any BBC source is not to be trusted. Full stop.
The OP stated that they hadn't seen anywhere reporting a detail of the budget, as I pointed out it was reported on by the BBC, now you say this is not to be trusted, this is maybe the most comical post I've read on this forum all year.
