Fresh water tank monitor

Was thinking along the same lines and ordered one of these to play with a week or so back....

Still not landed yet.... But for less than £20 I'm not complaining...
Bought something similar from Lidl last year. It is fitted to my fill hose. Only the display, no bluetooth or app, but it was under a tenner, and it works really well.

On our Eldis I fill till it starts to come out of the overflow. I always find that after filling up and driving I always loose a large amount, I assume from the overflow?
For me this application won't work until I find a solution to the problem, perhaps and extension off the overflow and tap.
Downside would be when I forget to open the overflow !#!!
Has any one else had this issue?

There is a very simple solution and is the one I use actually ....

Connect this to the tap - https://amzn.to/3UttmZr - and then turn the tap off when it gets to the amount of water that you know the tank will hold.

It also saves you having to hang around at the tap ready to turn the tap off when it overflows. You can get on with stuff while th tank fills knowing exactly when you need to turn it off

That's much like the one I get from Lidl. I use it the other way round though: fill the tank until it is full then see how much it took to fill it.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself well.
I loose water from the overflow when I am driving. I could stopper it, but may forget to open it when I next fill up.

That tends to happen when the tank is overfilled. Mine would do the same. But now I fill the tank to the amount of litres I know it holds, using the meter to tell me how much I've put in and all good.

On our van the overflow/vent consists of a thin pipe of about 1/4" bore coming from the top of the tank and terminating at a second outlet at the filler port it's self. Our tank stays full while driving because A, the overflow pipe rises a lot and terminates considerably higher than the tank, and B, not a lot of water can slosh through a 1/4 bore pipe.
If you're losing loads of water while driving then your overflow pipe must be large, can't you restrict the size somehow? Or lift the outlet? Or put an upward loop in the pipe?

Martin P:
Fitted today.
Very simple job
Measures litres used
So when I fill the tank I reset and it then it counts down the litres.
I now know a full freshwater tank gives me 88 litres!

Very nice!
I can see they also do wireless ones but no price tag.
The budget option could be
Look at this product that I found on google.com https://share.google/YFuNdp5HmhfCzDCGX

Turns out.... You also need a 'smart hub' to be able to connect it to your smart phone (seems over complicated to be honest)

BUT if you buy from some places online the smart hub and meter come in together at around £40

I've ordered the hub for £25
And see how I get on.

IF I had read more into it and realised I needed the hub then I could've saved myself a couple of quid by buying them together..

Ho hum

So, are you fitting this unit into the MH water tank outlet to monitor what you've used? If so watch out because those Hozelock connectors don't seem particularly reliable long term.

No intention of using hozelock connectors other than in the garden...
Where (genuine) hozelocks are fine..

Ill be swapping them for something more permanant.

Does this one need a Tuya WiFi hub device ?

Top tip, many thanks. My vent/overflow must be 15 to 20mm from memory. It will be a quick fix to reduce down and take a new pipe upwards.
Currently I only have a spigot exiting the tank, perhaps the original fell off before we had the motorhome.

Hmmm, not sure if everyone here has OCD or I am just a lazy slob lol. When I fill my tank with the watering can I can tell when it's getting full from the gurgling as water goes into the tank. When I get an odd sputter when running water off I know I have reached 25% left.

Then again I carry 60ltrs plus in 5 litre bottles in the shower tray.

Oh, no need to answer the initial question, I know I am a lazy slob but I am happy and stress free :)

Hooked it up to the hosepipe before I stick it in the van...
After the 'hub' Turned up today...

Needs a 2.4ghz network though so if you only have 5ghz....
Or NO network at all It won't work.

Nice little app with lots of features including by the looks the ability to warn you when you've used X litres or Gallons though I've not played with that bit though.

I'm happy so far

And now planning some auto waters for the err herb garden....

Though it's a shame it's not directly Bluetooth to phone for those that don't have hot and cold wifi in the van.
