EU roaming - Popit Mobile reduced allowances

Possibly back to local Sims and a VPN.....Portugal Vodafone Go sim still is unlimited data for, I think, 30€ for thirty days , renewable up to 90 days. But doesn't work in Spain. We tend to use our 25gb allowance from O2 phone plus a id mobile 25gb allowance when travelling through Spain and France.

This might be an option. In theory you would think that an EU sim would work the same in each country of the EU although I seem to remember pre Brextit there were cheaper sims here that didnt include roaming but it should certainly be possible to find an EU sim that works all over the EU seamlessly. I believe the Tiekom sim is Spanish and gives you 400gb a month in Spain and 200gb in the rest of the EU with no limits on how much you use it outside of Spain (or the UK).

Buying local sims I bet is a PIA though once you are there. I would prefer to sort it out before I go. E sim would be even better.

EDIT: Why cant you type Brex it?

It seems to me that all of the UK based sim card providers, who found a way around EU limited rulings have had to pull their products.

Therefore, would the answer be to buy local data sim cards in which ever European country you are in?
I’ll be limited to the 12.5 gb of my 40gb Smarty. Probably enough for me to get through France.
So I’d be looking for card to put n my router, while in Spain and Portugal
.I’d be more than happy to to hear any recommendations 👍
In Spain, previously, I just bought a Vodafone sim . Only worked in Spain of course.
Did buy a Vodafone(?) sim in Jonquera last year which covered EU and UK . Booth in a supermarket. Place seemed to cater for eastern European truck drivers , guy was probably Russian. All seemed a bit dodgy but it did work

Buying a Réglo Mobile SIM for use in France is easy - just go to a large Leclerc on arrival, armed with photocard driving licence and means of payment. Register online if you want to pay to keep it going after the first month.

Less than fifteen quid for 300gb? Sounds too good to be true in France.

I presume they just use one provider.

Might be ok that though, if it works

They use the SFR network.

I've used their SIMs in the past and the service is fine.

I still have an active SIM with a very low monthly fee which I may well reactivate when I go to France in mid-December for the winter.

And probably try it in a router!

Worked for me, but in an old phone after I had problems the first time that I used it in my router. Obviously, in a few remote locations the inability to use the router's rooftop aerial meant weak or no signal. I will almost certainly be using Réglo Mobile next spring; may try the SIM in the router after a few days, particularly if poor signal, and see whether the issue was with the router or simply a coincidence.

Have used Reglo and they work well
Generous allowance for France but limited (forgotten figure) for rest of EU

There is something in there about 16gb at the bottom of the page I linked to but the translation is all over the place. It would be good to know if it works all over Europe and if they do or do not work in routers. I dont have a router yet but I might cobble one together with an antenna I have for next year. I was going to go Tiekom but not sure now. I just keep thinking there must be a catch. :D

Tiekom rings true to me because it is not cheap as chips [clever con?] . Just use my phone so no idea about routers .
If only travelling in France Reglo probably perfect . 16Gb does sound familiar
My son gets 100s of Gbs all over eastern Europe and some of western Europe using many different suppliers .
Possibly we are being ripped off in UK ?
Off on my travels in less than 3 weeks [fekkin dental sheit] will let you know .
No technical questions ! It would be pointless

I used Orange and Movistar in Spain, both gave me 100GB and excellent coverage, Movistar was the best coverage overall but beware we aren't the only country with roaming limits, Orange gave me 15GB in Portugal and Movistar gave me 12GB in Portugal :(

Here you go .......

1. Communications in Europe and the DOM will be counted within the limits of the uses included in your package or in your extension. Beyond that, consumption will be deducted according to the terms of the Tariff Sheet if the balance of your Réglo Mobile account allows it.

Sorry Del,

I gave you the wrong link, that was for an eSIM, not a physical one :(
This is the proper one but you need to go into a NOS shop to sort it out so that would mean a visit to a biggish town or city

Yes I found that bit but I think either the translation is poor or its badly explained. Not sure what the 16gb bit is or maximum internet speeds are about in number 5. I suspect the 16gb might be what your allowed outside of France. Don't know.

Teikom appeals as I think it uses several providers. SFR are a major player in France at least though I think.

Vodafone have a partnership with a French operator, they do not operate themselves in France, so it's not surprising.

"Vodafone had a 44% share in SFR until April 2011, when it sold its entire share back to SFR's founding parent company Vivendi. SFR is a major partner network of Vodafone in France."

Réglo Mobile uses... SFR!!!

Feedback please from anyone using Id mobile?
Any experience of problems with ‘fair usage’ over the ‘ more use abroad in 4 month period’ issue. We do 2 periods of 90 days.
I see they use ‘3’. Any issues with signal in Scotland or Europe? I seem to remember, years ago now when using Smarty, it always connected to a network in Spain that only worked near big cities…which we avoid and wasn’t too good in Highlands. I prefer EE network but not many low cost piggyback operators use them.

Can you get BBC and Netflix in Europe with Id mobile? Or do you need a VPN? It’s been no problem with EE based providers.

Unlike others who now throttle you down now to 25GB or less, a couple of their £10 sims would suffice for us, we hardly ever use more than 60GB between us.
