driving on m6

They used to be called knights of the road, not heard that for decades, my sister was married to a truck driver back in the BRS days.

Well, if we're being held up on a dual carriageway by a lorry overtaking another with a 0.00001mph speed difference, I usually say" oh, look up ahead darling, another couple of 'Knights of the road'. Well, something along those lines 🤔

A trucker explained to me once that they do this because if they slow down it can take miles to get back up to speed again.

I asked "what about all the miles we are stuck behind you" He said "survival of the fittest mate" which made about as much sense as Trev when he's been on the Jameson's.

Bow- locks. What was he driving? A modern HGV or a 'kin traction engine?
Don't answer that Rob, if you were a kid at the time..... probably a traction engine eh🤣

It was a while ago Merl!

I have been to Bow Locks though.

I'm baffled why the lorry being overtaken doesn't just simply lift off his throttle slightly rather than have 2 lorries side by side for mile after mile??? Is losing (literally) a second in journey time that important to truckers? or do they actually take some delight in holding up those pesky car drivers?
Not that easy if you think about it, the roads here are so overcrowded if you lift off you don’t just slow yourself down but probably a whole line of followers ,do they run into tohe back of you or pull out? If they slow down too it would just go back down the queue until someone not concentrating causes a pileup,if they pull out (if there’s room) they’re going too slow, the roads in the UK are the worst in Europe, no space to build any more and no money to improve the existing network, at least it’s not us having to sit all day getting heart problems, piles, etc and eating shitty expensive food because the truck stops are now hotels or missing the ferry so not seeing family again, at least we can stop for a break whenever we like because realistically,we shouldn’t need to be in a hurry as we seldom have deadlines set by office staff who have little idea of ‘real world’ truck driving, lets be honest it’s a shitty job and getting shittier and we’re lucky it’s not us having to do it.

Let's be sensible, not slowing down by 3 mph for fear of causing an accident sounds like another defence from the Prince Andrew book of crap excuses. I mean everyone in the overtaking lane has to slow down behind the overtaking lorry so no difference there.
You're dead right, it's not a job I'd want to do but not relevant unless you're saying "trucker's have a shitty job, let them have a bit of fun now and again by holding up and pissing off a few car drivers" ?

I can see a scenario similar.
Truck A, in lane 1, slows down a few MPH to let truck B in lane 2 pass.
Trucks, C, D, E & F all in lane 1 behind truck A, think truck A has slowed down as they've found a good porn channel. Trucks C, D, E & F all pull into lane 2. Elephant race continues.

........Elephant race continues until ALL trucks pull into next layby the view said porn channel.
