Driving in London

Mines under 3.5 tons most days

Yes your right the ulez is inside but not counting the south and north circular roads. Go Inside with wrong vehicle = £12.50 per day but only when moving ! lol. oh and Christmas day is free

But abby wood camp site is out side this area. Lez no cost to me at this time.as not hgv.

I think that zone is in expansion area . but for now only HGV over 3.5 ton . Don't know that charge / cost befor
Is that £ 12.50 ontop of the other £ 12.50 or 2 for 1 ????

Is it right in this country you have to ask befor you go Out ie into our capital with a vehicle ?...

F#CK that. Fine me !
I've been into "The Smoke" on many occasions but two trips to Charing Cross a few months apart resulted in a £112 demand!
Inconsiderate, selfish & uncourteous drivers & roadworks led to my unscheduled detour, noticing the big red C after the traffic had crept along at snails pace. Upon turning around as son as I could, I then tried to check, with TfL, if my number plate required a levy to be paid but it only advised paying or face a fine with a decimal point moved to the right.
So I paid ULEZ & LEZ; & no refund came back. My advice would be :
" If in doubt,
' PAY THE ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS' " .

We are in n Morrocco bikes buses donkeys carts camels humans coming at you all the time, normal here but you honk laugh and move on ;)
No congestion charges though Rob.
Could do Mark but I veered off the main route a couple of times (I went down the A41 to Vauxhall Bridge), once when I took the wrong lane and no b@stud would let me back in and once when the satnav knew better!

London was so busy this afternoon (something to do with the Lord Mayors Show) that it was very hard to concentrate on signage. Scooters, pushbikes and those bloody e-bikers (😄) coming at me from all angles. And don't get me started on those buses. And another thing, the last 5 miles or so was all 20mph limits I ask you!

Not that I'm one to moan.

Morroccos a doddle. I used to think London driving was good training for places Marrakesh etc, but now I think Marrakesh is training for London :ROFLMAO:

Wully, Rob has no time for chickens, let alone a horse!!

Rob might have to start liking those poor old chickens of Julie’s a bit more - Lidl & Aldi not exactly rationing eggs, but polite notice on shelves asking people to ‘leave enough to go around’ when I went shopping yesterday.

Guess a few folk are panic reacting to the current Bird flu problem. Still, if you haven’t got any eggs to eat you can always pass the time of day envying people eating animal genitalia on TV instead 😉

They're well past laying eggs Marie.

Only 2 left now but still looking far too healthy for my liking.

Go back a few years and I would regularly be driving into central london, the CC was never a problem as it was added to customers bill, then one day I got the dreaded brown envelope with a fine for non payment, on checking the sectary had paid for wrong day, so I appealed fine.
The procedure is fine is held at lower amount until appeal is heard, but they issued a higher fine for not paying on time before appeal was heard. The appeal was dismissed, so I said ok but I would only pay the lower amount as per correct procedures, this for some strange reason triggered the appeal to be allowed and the fine was withdrawn, but with a warning that the same excuse would not be allowed again.
I can only guess that they had no procedure to drop fine back to lower amount, so they decided easiest way was to completely drop it.
As for driving in London, I usually drove a battered old T25 that looked like it had been used for dodgems, the previous owner when wanting to patch up scrapes seemed to have grabbed first pot of paint to come to hand and slapped it on, never had any problems with being cut up etc.

The big red letter "C" is all good and well if traffic volume allow one to see the sign. Most of us have experienced that inability to read the motorway sign due to high suded vehicles & generally London is rammed with them in a highly congested traffic flow; adding to that, the inconsiderate drivers who refuse to let others filter & the unfamiliarity with city traffic conditions, it is highly probable that someone will be caught out & receive a fine....... I did & will never drive in London again.

Like you Brad, I have vowed never to drive in London again.

I commuted into London by car/motorcycle for 20 odd years and it was bad enough back then and that was before the congestion charges were introduced, so I'm damned if I will pay for the privilege! I will also avoid to what extent I can the new charges being introduced elsewhere in the country. Unfortunately, I expect that it will become so widespread that it will be impossible to avoid completely.

I will also have to break the London vow once or twice a year as my wife has to see medical consultants in London periodically.

Go in by bus Rob , free with bus pas. First time I came to Cornwall I left Greenwich, at 5.30 on a Sunday morning in July on my Ducati Daytona GT and did not see another moving vehicle until after Basingstoke less then one hour later, flat out down the Old Kent and Great West Roads. Not like it now eh?

I don't have a bus pass yet H but only 3 years away from it.

Sadly Julie has severe Menieres disease which affects the inner ear and she regularly suffers from rotational vertigo (room spinning). Many forms of transport can set it off, she can't travel by bus, train, boat or plane so we are pretty much restricted to the car or camper.

I too remember flying through London in the early days early in the morning, especially over the Bow flyover and down the Mile End road.

You can still fly through London. Just make sure you nab another MH's number plate. The gallery is most helpful :p 😂

I'm assuming your wife is entitled to a Blue Badge ?
Also assume Blue Badge holders are exempt ?
Both answers should , of course , be yes .
Unfortunately , whether we like it or not , the posts on here show the system deters most people from driving into London. Which , in theory at least , is the desired result

Unfortunately she doesn't have a blue badge.

A ridiculous situation in that her doctor said if she lived a few yards down the road (ie. in Cambridgeshire) she would get one with no qualms whatsoever but not so in Bedfordshire.

Mr Khan states that the charges are to encourage motorists to buy green (electric) vehicles. He really doesn't have a clue about the real world. I think he means that only the wealthy will be able to drive in London before too long.

Yes think her Blue Badge fiasco was in another thread . Been knocked back twice* myself .
Think your wife has a much greater need than myself .
*before anyone jumps in , yes I've had more knock backs than a horse has hairs . Was referring to Blue Badge applications!

Yes she has 6 or 7 conditions (maybe more we've lost count) and when she is at her worst she can't walk more than a dozen or so paces. Traffic wardens are often sympathetic though when they see her staggering back to the car from outside a shop.

How about when you stagger back from the pub ?

Got a shock today when I checked whether the LEZ charge for my van. It seems that the charge is £300 per day for my motorhome because it's over 3,500kg MGW and not Euro VI  I guess Greater London is somewhere I'm not welcome...

Just watch youtube 3 posts in london for November and December 2022 in 3 London campsites. Started out scary for them and they ended up street parking for 2 nights inside £ 12.50 hamstead
All outside low zone
There names (good time travelling.) They have a green luton removal self build.
