Crap on Scottish Roads! (it's not us)

I was telling my wife about the BBC Scotland thread and that I had written to the BBC to complain (very out of character for me) and she reminded me of an incident on our last trip.

As we were driving down the A835 heading for Knockan Crag, in the distance there was a chap with what appeared to be a huge white dog, I thought it must be a Pyrenean Mountain dog or similar. As we got closer we saw it wasn't a dog it was an old lady squatted down having a crap, and he was stood there holding out a toilet roll. We were just stunned, not just that she was going to the toilet at the side of the road, it was fair it was way from the road but that was just the point it was an elevated position for all to see coming from either direction!

We had passed before it fully registered and I was cursing myself for not thinking to stop and take a photo.

Our son and his family were travelling behind us and they saw it too.

It became a standing joke for us through the rest of the holiday if anyone needed the toilet we would joke that they would have to hang on until we found a suitably public place to do it!

Sorry, just thought I'd share.

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention they were in a small car, or at least that is what was at the side of the road.

Just one of the many examples hardly given mention by our media outlets.
My friend only yesterday referred to the BBC article, convinced of our guilt.
And he is a very intelligent man, yet was convinced of our responsibility for much of what is going on right now. I did show him the toilet cassette and informed him how it all works explaining that we only need to visit an Elsan point once a week to suffice our needs, whereas those without such facilities are much more likely to dispose of their human waste inappropriately. I think I did convince him, but without my intervention this highly intelligent well educated man was convinced that we were the route of all that’s wrong in our rural areas today.

Pre pandemic I had this with a lady at a parking spot who was having a bit of a moan about motorhomes using the carpark as a toilet so after explaining to here that vans have full bathroom facilities she looked a bit shocked so I invited her in to show her she clearly had no idea that all motorhomes have bathrooms and a lot of campervans do too it was clearly an eye opener for her.

I was bored so cobbled this together.

I wish I could think of somewhere useful to share it!

Fact is many public loos were closed many years back and when the tortoise shows his head, well you know the rest. 😂
Fact is I see many so called campervans which are in fact only day vans with no loo, facebook is full of them for sale here.

I still think that on balance it is more likely to be down to campers, cyclists and hikers yet they don’t get any of the abuse that we do.

I was sitting opposite an ex-Pat Rotary Club worthy , at some do.
Charming couple, until I mentioned that we're motrhomers.
The temperature fell by 20 degrees.
" Why do you all come down here and empty your toilets on our roads ?"... Asked his Mrs, huffily , with a face like a bad ham.
I tried to explain the physical impossibility of this.
" I don't believe you, we take videos and all my friends do the same.. just Look at facebook. It's common knowledge."
You leave the Olhao campsite, turn the tap on , leaving a trail of raw sewage.. We live nearby and see it time and time again. You turn on to the congested N125 and really let it rip. Don't deny it."
I suggested that the last thing most motorhomers do, before leaving a campsite, is to fill up the fresh water tank., Until it overflows, then empty the WC ..
Very important, if we don't know where we'll be that night. Obviously the turn onto the main road creates a wave .
..
End of conversation, they didn't even wish us Goodnight.

One thing that many do after leaving a motocross event is to drain their left over water slowly when leaving the track. The idea is to keep dust down and carry less weight. I guess people will think this is toilet waste too. Even grey waste isn't that bad to drain onto the road unless your one of these people that push food waste down the plug hole.

Grey water is pretty well harmless, and in actual fact can be used on plants as a mild fertiliser. We go to a CL near catterick where we are asked to put our grey water into his vedge patches. They even provide hose to direct it into the vedge patch.
