Ayrshire has introduced a £10 a night overnight parkover in some locations. With a text confirmation its £10.20.
At Brassarie beach park well away from the entrance due to numerous cars with flashing internal lights, or beam full on near entrance. once it gets dark....guess why!
Traffic noise starts at 05.20 with big lorries and buses. No trees to buffer sound.
Ayr. 'Boy racers' maybe girls too in and out of dsignated 'motorhome' spaces and the adjoining car park. Its no different to 20 year ago with this nuisance. So police don't bother here with anti social behaviour. Its not worth the £10 to be disturbed like this.
Irvine: At the point where river meets the sea, Every morning, there is an emptying of bins and a special machine to sweep up the debris of the night before just thrown from vehicles of the 'boy racers' etc. Cans, pizza boxes etc. Yet there is a camera above the rescue building recording everything 24 hrs. Why then, has this footage not been inspected by police and the people leaving litter and causing distress to others due to their behaviour prosecuted? Police failure once agin! Make an example of a few and trouble will stop. I do not reccomend either place for a quiet restful night.
Another to avoid is the one mid bay at Ardrossan! Spend a fiver in the secure harbour. Not pretty, but safe!

To be fair to Ayrshire council here they have tried to open their carparks for us. We have spent two nights in Girvan and Balantrae with no issues. The parking spaces in Girvan are the largest I have ever seen. They have also provided facilities in Ayr, and yes Irvine.
They have also made many of their carparks available to us free of charge with no restrictions. But they can’t be held responsible for the behaviour of some of the residents.
Also this only serves to underline where the anti social behaviour in such places comes from, not those Motorhome owners but others. I applaud Ayrshire councils efforts, at least they have not simply erected barriers, or put up signs. Let’s vent our anger where it should be vented, and not against councils who are doing there level best to welcome us.

Its good that they offer parking for motorhomes but they do sound a bit grim. Any large car park thats open to the local boy racers will be like a magnet. Not for me. There are much better options just about anywhere.

Sounds sh*t. For a tenner you can get a nice off grid CL away from all that nonsense with services. Less than a tenner if you hunt around.
Barry, I enjoy the quiet places also, but I also enjoy visiting towns and cities.
And spending time in remote places away from un civilisation :) It’s simply not some people’s cup of tea. Also the vast majority of CLS now are around £20 not less than a tenner. I paid £25 a night for a cl in Anglesey this summer. Not complaining it was well worth the money.

Ballantrae was lovely anything but Grim.
And we had no issues in Girvan either.
I have spent some good times in Ayrshire, but I would avoid Ayr and Irvine.

Irvine is what we call a new town up here, with higher than normal unemployment, and it has more than its share of social problems. Ayr although a nice town has always had an undesirable element. Probably ok midweek but not where I would want to be at the weekend. Although if you like a nice beech, Ayr beech is excellent.

What I find astonishing, are the comments from some on here regarding Scarborough council, supporting their carte Blanche approach, yet here we are taking a poke at a council, who are doing their level best to welcome us, as most councils do up here.

Thats why I said "Off grid" CL's Bill. The ones with hookup are mainly £20+ but still plenty of off grid places for a tenner or less and a few new private 5 van aires I keep finding. Not everyones cup of tea perhaps but got to be better than a large tarmac car park full of nutters in souped up Corsas. :D Not so good in the winter I suppose as most are on grass. Come Winter I will be on the £20 CL's though with hard standing and peace and quiet.

We used to go to Ayr all the time and saw at least 40 vans parked along the promenade,40 vans virtuly with no-one in them, they were up the town spending money and helping Ayr's economy.
I agree they don't put up height barriers but there is now and has been for a while no overnight parking signs all over the place, chasing all the money that was getting spent in the shops and cafés away and offering you,for a tenner to be kept awake by the local youth in their sh%te effort of an Aire.
As far as I can remember you can park on the prom and adjacent streets overnight from the end of September.

You are painting a rather disparaging outlook here Barry. :)
I have parked for free ( yes Barry FREE) in Ayrshire and enjoyed being close to the sea.
The type of surface I am parked on makes no difference whatsoever.
You should visit Balantrae nice wee town, and they even put up road signs for us to find the carpark.
It’s a different world up here, were wc is easy with common sense.
You know this yourself Barry being a honourable Arraner. :)

I again applaud Ayrshire council and say thanks for all your efforts on our and your local businesses behalf.

As I said previously, Ayr is not a place I would stay, particularly during the weekend.
So I am not really able to comment on the aire having never seen it.
But Ayr is a busy town, much in demand hence the large carpark all the way along the front. Trying to provide an Aire if that’s what it was meant to be would not be easy. I reckon from what I have seen online it was simply a carpark with limited facilities. And without the attention of some local undesirables, would probably have been fine.
But these observations are not based on a visit, just what I have read.

Just what we have heard about (And witnessed sometimes) time and time again. I am sure you will get quiet nights on these places but there are endless threads showing that this is not always the case. Thats enough to put me off. Anyway, Arran is too much of a draw to bother with anything else on the way up there for me at least.

You also said previously that there has been no signs put up,there has been, all I'm saying is that the council have chased away money that Ayr town centre desperately needs, sorry but I can't applaud that.

I Was speaking about Ayrshire as a whole, not Ayr in isolation, and in many of their carparks they have opened them up for us, they could have put barriers and signs up in these locations, but did not. I never stated that throughout the whole of Ayrshire there are no parking restrictions for us or anyone else, obviously there must be some. But it remains a fact that in many towns they have offered overnight parking for us.
Also I never asked you to applaud anyone, I merely stated that I applaud them.
But if you feel that they have failed to do enough for us, or worse, that’s for you to decide. And no need to apologise Jacks, you are entitled to your opinion, that’s what we do, offer our opinions.

I spent Saturday night at this stop over at Barassie beach Troon excellent spot never heard a thing massive area no set parking bays just park where you want so why park next to the carpark at gate area when there’s a 4 acre field to park on you need to move right down to bottom and as near to beach as possible £10 a bargain in my book to be parked right beside the beach and not worry about getting a ticket. Ok for a night maybe two.

I was speaking specifically about Ayr and can't comment on the rest of Ayrshire.

Although I probably wouldn’t stay in them, or rarely, I think it’s a great thing that those councils are doing something positive. A lot of people wouldn’t like places I stop but that’s good because it means I have more chance getting in lol

With regards to Ayr, and Irvine I agree, but there are some other parts well worth a visit.
