Autohomes

Yeah it looks a good deal to me, and dont think its a scam ashe is willing to take cash on delivery. I dont know that model atall (and know loads of trannie models!) so will do some rerearch... Would you really go all the way up to the Highlands just for a look?? Good on yer!!

Right... this is what I found out...ad says Ford Transit Flareside. And on body it says Flairside Explorer. Transit Flareside was a Ford pickup with a great bullet proof engine that is highly regarded and i think quite rare. Cant find any refs to Flairside Explorer so suspect this may be home conversion.. or possibly a caravan attached to pickup. It looks more like that to me ,but either way conversion looks good. Typical caravan U-shaped lounge which I love cos get panoramic views, (though does mean cab seats aren't in use in living area). Might want to ask about any damp inside, esp weaknesses where body attached to pickup. Also doesnt mention water tanks. If you are interested i'd ask a few quetions like... how long have they had it, how long is the van (quite long wheel overhang) what are the minor jobs they mention etc etc. But overall it looks really nice, loads of features for money, full oven, bathroom, heater, hot water, loads of storage, great size roof bed... and has a really nice feel to it (but I do tend to prefer old and characterful than mod and wipeclean) It is certainly a one off. You could talk to RubberTramp - he has a caravan on a Transit (think its a transit) so might be able to sugest any weak spots to look out for. Food for thought??

This was the Transit Flareside.

Although I think the Flareside was introduced later....it looks very much like mine....(the cab is identical).....with three quarters of a caravan nailed onto the flatbed.
Has been mechanically sound for the four years I've had it, except for some propshaft problems.

Lots of interesting vans out there!

I'm still looking although still not exactly sure what I want, I keep going round in circles! I decided not to rush in and wait for a bargain over the winter, I wouldn't have been at the meets in the VW anyway as I found it a bit cold at the Grewell meet - need a heater! I also need to sort car insurance out and other boring stuff but I'll get there eventually! No idea when I'm off to NZ, all depends on work and when a suitable project is availabel so I'm just waiting on that.

Generally I'm back looking at newer vans to avoid running two vehicles, this means either buying someone elses self build or doing my own. Although I keep looking back at coachbuilt I can't see myself using one daily. I would prefer something with at least a bed in it so I can use it in the spring! I'm missing the weekends away though, I had to start the decorating at home to keep myself entertained!
