Alone at Ruby Bay Elie, Fife

Aires are often public car parks ? Not sure why you think it is not an aire
This is a public carpark, it has been a public carpark for decades. But it’s a public carpark which allows overnight parking with limited facilities. The only difference being you are only allowed to park overnight in a car or a motorhome in certain designated areas of the carpark. Today we are heading for the Aire at Lochore. This was set up purely for motorhomes, no other types of vehicles are allowed. It has only ever been an Aire. I have never been to an Aire which allows cars to park. On SFS this place is designated as a car park with facilities. Fife coastal trust refer to their carparks, no mention of them being Aires. But if you and others want to refer to a carpark where you can spend the night an Aire, then so be it.

Yes Barry parked into the wind, been a rough night still windy till 11. But managed some sleep. Absorption fridge 11c

Glad to hear you haven't been blown out to sea Bill. Windy here last night. Our old Kontiki fridge would sometimes go out in a strong wind but neither of them had cooling issues.

We had 65mph winds here, and they’re gusting over 70. I went out to take photos and could hardly walk forward. I checked online and apparently it affects the fridge by preventing proper air circulation at the vents. Covers may have helped but I was not for going out there last night. Fridge currently 11c

Honestly there are thousands of aires exactly the same

Used to be one of my favourite stop overs on route north but one year we pulled up and it was like a traveller encampment with dogs running all over the place loud music and BBQs there must have been at least 20 vans with awnings and gazebos out so looks like the only time to go now is winter I might add they nearly all spoke with a Scottish accent and most of the vans had 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 on them.

I bought winter covers for our Christmas trip last year Bill. Mainly to stop crap getting in though when the van is parked up as I am sure this did for our last fridge on the old van. I think on Gas though you can only put one on. That reminds me I need to think about fitting them again for the winter when parked up.

This is for Alcam, who can’t tell the difference between an Aire and a public car park :p

Lochore AIRE has improved enormously since our last visit. There are 18 hard standing pitches 8 with EHU. The chemical waste is now within the AIRE, and in front of the chemical waste theres a drive over grey waste. There’s a fresh water tap here as well. They will be installing toilets, and showers are being considered. There’s a barrier now controlled with a fib for entry and exit. It’s £14 a night without EHU and £20 with. You have to pay a returnable deposit of £20 for the barrier fob.
They have worked wonders here, a vast improvement to what went before.

Hence why we don’t go there in summer Annie. Most English visitors head up the west coast of Scotland completely ignoring what is on offer in the east.
