❄️Compressor Fridges ❄️

Well my Dometic compressor fridge/freezer has been i a few days now and I have to say I'm impressed so far.

Couple of hot days and no EHU it has just done its job, ok it wasnt cheap, but think I'll be happy enough.

Gas cooker goes next (never used it) and my ecoflow stack can go there, new worktop and Bob's your uncle.

End of the summmer and I'll look to see if I can run the water heater off the Lithium/EcoFlow and then look to dump gas completely.

Exactly what I've done Kev.

My water heater is a gas/electric with a 750W element, I haven't used it yet but I reckon it will take about an hour to heat the water up which I think my Lithiums can handle. I now also have a diesel heater, Air Fryer, induction hobs (ordering shortly), Remoska and of course the Cobb BBQ.

Just need to remove the underslung gas tank now.

How old is the tank and size Rob, may go dfown that path as lots of room under my bus.

It's 8 years old and due an inspection in February 2027 Trev. I'll have a look under the van later and see what condition it is in if it still looks good you can have it gladly mate. It holds 20kg at 80% full.

Could possibly get it to you via the WC pony express.

The typical Boiler in a Motorhome seems to be 10L. Assuming that is the case in your motorhome, your estimate of 1 hour is pretty accurate I would say.
I have an 800W element in my 10L Truma Ultrastore which is set to heat the water to 60C (with the Trumas, you can set the water temp on the gas, but the Electric is a pre-set temp controlled by the element) and I have found the heater complete the job and turns off after around 50-55 minutes. In fact I have added a timer so I can turn it on a timed circuit and it will automatically remove power after 1 hour so I can't forget to turn it off afterwards (useful if I am heading away off somewhere and can just turn the electric element on to work during the drive so I arrive with a tank of nice hot water :) )
And if on hookup, I put the switch just onto "on" rather than "timed" so it will come on automatically when needed. (y)

Yes that is also our plan to heat the water whilst driving whenever possible, I also like the idea of adding a timer - do you have a link to the one you fitted?

Cheers Rob, will pay depending on size.

I use this one here - https://amzn.to/4eFHbgI . You can set it between 1 and 99 seconds or 1 and 99 minutes - so I set it at 60 minutes.
That output of that Timer Relay then controls an SSR like this - https://amzn.to/4eC6Eaz - which is effectively a remote Mains switch.
I would use a three-way (on-off-on) switch to then 1) turn the heater on bypassing timer; 2) heater off; & 3) heater on via timer.
In timer mode, it cuts the power after the set time (60 minutes for example) and to get another 60 minutes, you just put the switch to off and then back on to restart the timer.
I think I have a wiring diagram for the above which I can try and find if you want? I installed it over 4 years ago so would have to do a little search :)

(I have a slightly different setup with the timer plus the Victron Cerbo for a more complex control but if I didn't have the Cerbo, I would do the above)
