3 Way Fridges On Ebay Opinions?

I have the fridge running on gas, how long untill its starts to cool the interior? I tried the 240v & 12v neither work, I suspect the gas wont either.....buy cheap buy twice.......

It will take at least an hour before you can feel the vanes inside the fridge getting even cool let alone cold, to get the fridge to working tempreture it can take up to 3 hours. If you can't feel the vanes getting cold after 3 hours then yes I'd say there was a problem. However long have you had the fridge on 240v mains? Phil

Is there any sign of leakage around the rear pipework. One of the way to tell if an absorbtion fridge is working is that after about 1-2 hours the pipework gets hot near the top were the external cooling lanes are. If after 3 hours the pipework is still cold at the top end then it would suggest that the refrigerant has escaped, if that's the case you've got a guarantee issue if its less than a year old. Phil

Thanlks for the advise, problem is I've had it now for a few months, life has been very hectic. Should have checked it when purchased, but you know how it is...
Ill do the checks mentioned, I had the 240v on for an hour, should I be able to hear anything when its on the mains or 12v?

No it's totally silent, even on gas there is no noise unless you have a big double freezer fridge then you can hear a slight roar but even that is difficult to hear.
An hour is nowhere near long enough on mains honestly, you must give it at least 3-4 hours.
As for 12volts you would have to flattern a 100ah AGM battery before it would show signs of getting cold .Phil

By the by, the internal light only works when on 240v it won't work on battery or gas with this particular model. Phil

Ive had to re register with new details, re; the fridge I had it running on mains 240v for 24 hours zero cooling its a dud! thanks for the help

Pretty sure these don't have an exhaust to outside. Not a very good idea!

Check though 👍
My motorhome's fridge doesn't have an exhaust to the outside. The burner flue goes up the back and simply vents into the space behind the fridge.
That space is vented to the outside and sealed from the inside of the van, as every motorhome fridge should be (including compressor fridges).

Fitted properly, this fridge would be fine. Fitted wrongly, not so much.

Only just noticed this post, no ideally the fridge exhaust should always be vented to outside. In theory if the fridge cabinet is sealed totally from the living space and vented top and bottom then the fridge exhaust could be allowed to directly empty into the cabinet space though in practice this would be very dangerous and could allow carbon monoxide fumes into the living space if the cabinet was not completely sealed. I personally would not go down that root.
If your talking of putting vents in the side of the van top and bottom of the fridge cabinet what is the reason you can not vent the fridge exhaust through the side aswell?
Why must you vent the exhaust through the roof. Phil
You'd best tell Hymer and Dometic about this. They've been making this mistake for decades.

Still vented to the outside though, just not in the traditional sense. Their fridges are still sealed from the living space or at least the two Hymers my brother has had are sealed from. The living space
Phil.

One van we had, only looked to have a lower vent, but when I looked on the roof, it had a chimney as well, plus one for the heater. Only seen that once.

Yup, mine is like that. "In practice, this could be very dangerous" could well be applied to lots of things. Do it properly and you are fine. Screw it up and it could be lethal.

I took my driving test in our family VW camper. Its heater worked by blowing air over the exhaust to warm it. In theory (if not in practice) this could be very, very dangerous. As could the lack of airbags or seatbelts. But I survived.

To be fair I grew up sat on the drop down armrest on the bench seat of a P4 rover........

And various holidays in caravans/statics with Carver room flued water heaters....
Let anyone 2 stroke motorbikes and an inquisitive male mind....

Let alone my own inbuilt stupidity......

Didn't do me any harm lol..... Allegedly

Thats really weird. I guess this is to save the effort of fitting a permanently live 12v feed to the fridge.

Our fridge light comes on when it's on LPG
So does ours Pudsey but then it's a Dometic, I think the difference with these cheap fridges on Ebay and Amazon is they are not specifically designed for fitting into motorhomes they are more designed as camping and casual use on picnic outings. They don't sell any exhaust applications for them you have to make your own as I've done with the two I've fitted or pay for a dometic one and mackle it up. The two I've fitted to Sis in laws and daughters have worked well but for a few teething problems with the daughters one. Phil
