New LPG Tank Installation

Just top up when passing a cheap deal.
I generally reckon under £1 to be OK, though usually pay 80p or 85p, because that's what our local stations charge. Near Wolverhampton, it's 66p, but we rarely pass there.
At 24p per mile, its not worth driving far out of your way to save about £4, but I do object to being ripped off.

It may not be a case of being ripped off, it comes down to volume of sales and cost of bulk buying. Charlie loses money on lpg sales at Autogas2000 and that was £1 per litre, (not been for a while so may have changed). The cost of buying it is much higher than it would be around Birmingham/Wolverhampton where there are a lot more people using log, especially if there are taxi's.

Add the time of someone stopping what they are working on to go out and top up customer tanks (often just a few litres as folks top up while passing) and you are on a loss. Its only because it done as a customer service he sells lpg I reckon.

Of course there will be companies that will be making a lot of profit. As long as its cheaper than exchange I don't worry

Who is doing it at 66p. if I am passing.

Based on data from February 2026, the consistently cheapest LPG (Autogas) in the UK is found in the West Midlands, specifically around the Birmingham/Walsall area.
The Very Cheapest Locations (Feb 2026):
  • Great Bridge LPG (Fisher St, DY4 7EW): Listed with exceptionally low prices.
  • Midlands Auto Fuel Ltd (Walsall/Birmingham): Known for low prices (around 66-69p/l).
  • Carver Gases (Wolverhampton, WV1 1JY): Listed at 64p/l in late 2025.
Other Competitive Areas:
  • Telford: Watling Street Grange LPG (TF2 9PB).
  • Yorkshire: Ace Energy (Halifax) and Morrison's stations (e.g., Catcliffe).
  • South East: Parkfoot Garage (M20 J4).

That's interesting, I filled up GPL many times in France and have yet to find a unmanned pay by card outlet yet, but I have found pay before you fill ones ☹️, so you have to guesstimate how much you need and pay upfront. Don't think you get a refund if you overpay. And on GPL on the Autoroute services where you had to prepay I asked 3 people where the prepay was and still couldn't find it, so left 😫
We have used these..gas and derv just at a guess...they take the money straight away then you get the refund within a hour, sometimes straight away.

We had a problem with the unmanned lpg station at Ampolla on 18th February, so pressed the 'help' button, but nobody answered. Was about to leave when a Merc Van arrived, so could not leave the Area. Turns out it was the 'Help Crew' (just before lunchtime ...), consisting of 3 males and a female who never spoke and just decorated the place ...

The 3 blokes each had a go at rebooting the Terminal, before the 3rd one produced a cabinet key, disconnected the online cable for a few seconds, and said it would take up to 5 minutes to reboot ('It's old and we need to replace it anyway').

Selected the 'Fill' button and tried again - success! 16.95 litres at 0.84€ per litre = 14.43€, so the supplier lost a fortune on that sale ...

Then we looked at the Credit Card online - 3 x 120€ 'holds' plus the 14.43€ purchase! This morning, the purchase has been processed and 2 of the 'holds' have disappeared, but there is still 1 x 120€ hold remaining. Will need to keep an eye on the Statement - fortunately we have the ticket, so will be able to raise a dispute and get the Supplier to authorise the release of the hold by reference to the 1 x refill in the presence of the 'Help Crew' 🙄
