How much to supply and fit a towbar

@RSD7a
Have you weighed your van fully loaded recently specifically by doing each axle independently motor caravans are often close to or over the plated weight of the rear axle, and the fines and prosecution is the same if an individual axle is over even if the overall vehicle is under its plated weight

My crafter tow bar added about 45kg
My manual says nose weight should be 80-100kg
In order to not exceed my rear axles plated weight when towing my trailer i reduce my onboard water from 200 litres to 100.

Your bike carriers and bikes won’t equal that much nose weight but if you ever decide to tow a trailer it might.

Don’t forget to allow for that extra payload if your rear axle or overall weigh is already borderline

Thanks. All good advice. Data I have is;
Fully loaded at the weighbridge (full fuel, full water, 2 adults and all stuff for 3 weeks away)
Total 3280 kg (max is 3500kg)
Front axle 1580 (max allowed 2100kg)
Rear axle 1700 (max allowed 2400kg)
I'm imagining I have enough leeway there. No plans for towing anything.

Had the removable towbar fitted at home today by Stewart of MVA Towbars. http://www.mvatowbars.co.uk/
I'd thoroughly recommended him for this kind of work in central and southern Scotland.

Perfect for the 4 bike carrier from buzzracks

That's the benefit of a Maxi chassis, and yet some convertors are building 7+m vans on the Light chassis.

Over on the [alleged] Fun Forum, members were suggesting that a price of £1,000+ for a 'proper job' was perfectly reasonable ... :rolleyes:

Some are happy to pay over the odds saying "You get what you pay for, or for a proper job" not realising all they are getting is the privilege of paying over the odds.

Towbar - £740 fitted, inc with 13 pin electrics.
When we bought our Hymer new in 2001 we paid over £500 for a towbar to be fitted before we picked it up, standard Fiat chassis and 7 pin electrics, I have always fitted my own but I'll health prevented me from doing it.
£740 doesn't seem so bad now
