Do we have a right to park or not

I found this video disturbing, I think it’s well worth a watch.
Things in England and Wales really need sorting out.
I suppose when over 50 million live in a small country things can be difficult.
But people have to know where they stand.

The trouble is, and it sadly reflects on all parts of life, there always will be a minority of people that will taint the rest of who ever the group is and that includes police etc.
They are nowadays dancing to a different string it seems and its about numbers and money NOT about the good ole policing ways.
This scenario here, thankfully due to modern technology ie cameras ,can be imho, fought against IF peeps want to do it. A lot will probably just pay up and try to forget it. Abuse of power perhaps comes into it, but also the bending of truth being nice as in NO signs NO previous warnings and the ticket just thrown in the window. I thought you had to actually accept and take it from them? Might be wrong.
And yes we van lifers may get thrown in with the travelling community especially where they are in Appleby, WRONG I know before ya jump on me, but that apart to actually do it to a visitor as such!?!? ie the ex reporter....wtaf are they being ordered to do?

The Police CAN be assholes anywhere Bill, including Scotland - I've had direct experience of this.
Yes but as you have yourself posted Rob, England is so densely populated now, and parking issues are much greater in England due to this than any other part of the U.K.
I may be wrong here, but from what I see here this is symptomatic of that very situation.
From what I am seeing and hearing these people did nothing wrong legally.

I have had personal experience of police heavy handed ness up here, I was merely referring to the situation on the video, which I think is far more prevalent in England due to over 50 million living there than anywhere else in the U.K. I may be wrong, but that’s how it appears to me.

It doesn't mean though Bill that "Things in England and Wales really need sorting out" due to the actions of one group of Police officers in one county who to be fair are under quite a lot of pressure when Appleby Fair is on.

Police abuse of powers needs stamping out everywhere, including Scotland and Ireland and everywhere else in the world come to that!

Difficult to tell without the whole story...from that clip

The above is one person's side of the story with a selection of edited together clips.

I've seen these sort of clips so many times from so called "auditors" and drone operators....
I've become somewhat cynical these days.

Of course they do Rob. Police abuse of powers should not be tolerated anywhere.

To a degree I understand and go with you.
The trouble is nowadays with all the "misinformation" that has been used, I always say now that its on social media so it may or may not be true. Throw in AI and its a mine field. Hence me shutting FaceAche down.
The fact for me that the police in this case seemed to give "misinformation" on a few points and the fact they also did the same to a moho owner leads me to lean a bit on the fact this maybe the case.
Towed away vehicle's could have had other "issues" shall we say re tax / mot etc.
Edited or not they seem to have a case not to pay with a few pointers on no signs etc etc.

I would love to see the Police video of the situation, they usually wear body cams.

But if the Police know they are being filmed, surely they are not so stupid that they deliberately ignore the laws of the land and open up a can of worms? It could well be the case that the residents of the houses they were parked outside complained about noise or anti-social behaviour (there was mention of harrassment). I doubt we will ever know the full story because if they were found to be in the wrong I doubt they would admit it on their YouTube channel.

They were and you could see them flashing...and yes as I say re other "stuff" two sides to a story. BUT it did appear that they were contradicting themselves and not giving out the full facts.
Will they fight it mmmmmm we shall see and hopefully for all parties including us lookers on as it could affect all of us in the future, the truth and result will out.

One thing that some may not have picked up is where and when this happened, from what was said and the massive police present, this sounds like it was the Appleby horse fair, and it's so bad that most businesses, even the pubs close down, and some shops board their windows up. one of Lizs friends has a stables in Leeds and visits the fair every year to trade horses and ponies, she says it was over poiced this year as they had had a tip that there was going to be some serious trouble, that does not excuse the treatment the seem to be dealing out to innocent people though.

As I said in post #6 Kev.

And no it isn't an excuse to deal out unfair treatment (yet to be proved) but they are under pressure and I wouldn't want their job. Perhaps they moved them on for their own safety? I THINK the Police have the power to move people on (whether in Motorhomes, cars or on foot) if public safety or a breach of the peace is in jeopardy?

I have watched quite a few of this guys videos, and one thing that comes across amongst many is his passion for our rights. Ok he lacks sophistication in speech, and looks different. And I don’t agree with some of his depictions regarding being persecuted etc. I would very much doubt if AI was used, :) and this is not just one persons side of the story. It was corroborated by others including the retired journalist who had parked his car nearby.
Whilst I wholeheartedly agree its important to treat with care what you read and watch online, I do believe this man to be genuine.
And as Rob stated the police at times have a difficult job, they are put into difficult situations controlled by circumstances, and the powers that be, as well as their superior officers.
And Kev excuse my ignorance, but I had never heard of Appleby horse fair, but after watching this video I will make a point to avoid it.

I am minded towards this guy, not just because of this video, but because of all he has done on our behalf in the past.

Sorry Rob, I was responding to the OP and not read further until later.

The travellers were "creating" problems over 20 miles away from Appleby.

It should also be noted that temporary parking restrictions come into play for the duration of the fair for safety reasons.

Some residents aren't even allowed to park outside their own houses whilst the fair is on so it could be deemed a bit provocative for Motorhomes to turn up and want overnight parking - why would anybody want to anyway?

I think the Youtuber knew exactly what he was doing!
