LPG stations

I agree. It was a right PIA this summer in the UK (four months). There was literally one working LPG pump in the entire country of Cornwall when we were on the move (August I think) and on the route back home from Devon over 370 miles my quick search brought up two LPG possibilities on stations north bound that didnt require me to leave the motorway and one of those was out of order. I hope its better in Europe next year as its looking like its days are numbered here.

Please don't tell me that Cornwall have declared independence Barry! 😁

No problems in France this year, although in some remoter parts like the Alps you need to plan ahead a bit. I couldn’t believe just how busy the one in Briancon was. Italy was also fine last year.

Still pretty good in Spain although Reosol seem to be favouring eletric charging over lpg so the future is unsure

I called at my nearest lpg today at 2,00 struggled to get it working asked the attendennt if theirs a problem no she said , it is because I was the first person to use it today that was in Sheffield , my nearest one closed lpg down 3 months ago

We are in the process of getting another van after an absence of 18 months without one missed our van like mad , just had a weeks break in a Static Holiday Caravan at Hayling Island all very nice but would not want to be there in August must be Manic then, ,any way off topic there but the van we will probably buy has no refillables fitted and I let mine go with our previous van at the sale of it so are now considering whether to go down the refillables route again but am hearing lots of negatives as to availability of filling places , especially in UK ? we plan to go to Spain , Portugal again etc as we always did so what is the future looking like for refillables , I am well aware of the benefits of constant gas supply ie refillables but do not want to get them and then find a problem filling them my previous set up was 2 x11 kg bottles and all the kit from GASIT, which I fitted myself , so are they still the best , if viable ?? Please

Gas it are just as good as Gaslow, prices slightly lower, I got my Gaslow from here > https://www.gasproducts.co.uk/ < free delivery from Ireland and best prices I could find, finances and locker size meant I only got the 6kg and fitting kit + POL so I carry a 6kg Calor Propane and can swap them over just as you would 2 x Calor with no changeover gubbins, just a wall monted regulator.

Yes they are getting thinner on the ground at least in the UK. I carry 1 x 6kg Gaslow with a filler on the side and 1 x 6kg Calor because thats all my locker will fit. We have definitely had to rely on the Calor at times in the UK but I gather in mainland Europe its not so much of an issue.

The beauty of the refillables of course is, you can plan a route to go buy a pump, you can top up if so inclined, with Calor it's a bit more sudden that you need to A, find a dealer, B, they have the right size, C, no silly prices, D, they are actually open.

What I do in the UK if I am somewhere where LPG pumps are scarce or none existent is run the Gaslow until its got about two litres left, Swap to Calor, run that until its empty, Switch back to the remaining 2 litres of Gaslow then that gives me enough time to go off on the bike and find a replacement Calor without ever running out of gas. Replace it and swap back to Calor until such time I can then fill the Gaslow.

I just use the apps to find a pump 2-3 days after topping up, not used the Calor at all since fitting the Gaslow.

I just had an idea, I put Inverness into Google (PC) clicked maps and put in my location, and added Propane pump, it gave me this.

It may be better on the app.

Easier for you Kev as you move around a lot more than I do but as you will know it makes no difference how much you move about if there are no pumps like remote parts of Scotland and none at all on the islands. Thats where Calor wins in the UK at least. The only area I am slightly concerned about in France is the Pyrenees if we end up high up for a few weeks. Then again we are time limited this year so it might not be so much of an issue

I don't know if it is shown as closed on the apps, but the Lindesfarne Service Station on the southbound side of the A1 by the turnoff for Holy Island doesn't sell LPG currently. Found this out last weekend when I went to fill my tank.
Their tank is out of order. I don't have any idea when (if?) it will be fixed. FWIW, they do sell exchange calor.

Thats the other problem. Turning up to find out its out of order. I always ring up first but petrol stations don't always answer the phone. There was literally one working LPG pump in the entire county of Cornwall last August when we were there.

What do you use gas for the most?.

Hob for us, the fridge of course, and very occasionally the oven, not used the water heater for two years almost, and maybe two hours of heating.

Having the Calor back up is paramount though wherever we are.

As for the apps, they give a phone number so I use it to not waste time, unless it is actually on our route.

Barry is a wannabe caravanner.

Well unlike you we obviously like to take a shower maybe not every day but more frequently than two years! :ROFLMAO: so yeah. Hot water

Fridge obviously 24 / 7, cooking most days / kettle, heating.

I think in summer we are using about 0.7 - 0.9 litres a day or something like that.

I reckon in summer the fridge is the main use as its on all the time.

We do wash of course but a kettle in with the cold water is enough for bears, pussies of course need to be pampered more, I'd say about 0.5 litres a day give or take, but it's rare we don't just pass a pump within four or five days and just top up, the Calor is really only there for POM.

Not shown on the LPG.EU app as an active lpg outlet.
