My nephew has just bought one of the above with a view to doing a campervan conversion.

I have a few misgivings about this but the main one being that the payload is only 731Kg which I don't think is enough especially given that he wants it to sleep 4 people.

Any thoughts?

Not a chance, 4 adults will be approx 300kilos, water 1 kilo per litre etc.

Chuck in a mattress, a bucket and a camping cooker.

That’s going to be a nightmare in my opinion. I love my EV but a LWB van EV is suitable for local deliveries not as a MotorHome in my opinion.

There’s certain issues with all EVs, firstly the stated range, they say the biggest battery ESprinter will do 310 miles on city streets or 248 miles on single carriageway roads. There’s certain issues figures quoted are just not fact.

Firstly my car has a stated range of 329miles, then take into account that’s 100% to 0% so you can’t possibly expect a charger exactly where you run out of power, then you need to stay between 20-80% to preserve battery life. That 248 miles is now 148.8 miles, true you can charge to 100% if your going to drive straight away and run it down below 80% so there’s another 49.6miles.

But these figures are only in ideal conditions, how often does that happen? In reality my 329 miles is actually about 180 miles, then I use Electroverse for charging points, but a long van!! Good luck, your going to need it.

He’ll end up at BP/Esso etc and paying through the nose, if I use BP it’s cheaper to run my 4x4 and more convenient.

Kev’s also right the payload is not enough.

He's a shrewd lad Kev so he'd probably find a way to minimise the hit. He's just in unfamiliar territory when it comes to PVC's.

The way the figures are quoted for all EVs is questionable tbh. I remember visiting the dealer and being told 329 miles, I answered B#####k is it.
When I started to explain he came clean.

There’s also lots of cheap and free charging points but there NO cheap and fast charging.

Doubtful, Kev; there's a difference between asking for advice [and how the question is phrased!] prior to purchase, and undertaking an 'execution only' [as coined in the original Financial Services Act legislation] -e.g. 'I'd like a Merc EV so that I can convert it to a campervan' [or, 'I'd like a Merc EV, please'] ....

Just found out that it's a used vehicle which he has got at a VERY good price.

Knowing him as I do he will probably sell it on at a profit!

Not that it really matters, no way are they up for being used as most MH'ers would use theirs. Payload as mention is an issue for sure.
Range, depending on model, you can expect as low as 80/90 miles to a max of 190/210 miles.

As for backing out, not 100% but have a feeling if finance is used he may have a 14 day cooling off period, or if bought online or over the phone.

Bought in person at dealership, no cooling off period.

Worth a little search perhaps.

There are lots of them around for peanuts, as Amazon bought most of them, along with other parcels couriers, then they found out that the payload is pants and they won’t do a full days work without needing charging.
Yorkshire ambulance service had some converted into pts, and emergency ambulances but they just didn’t work,
And they are now just parked up rotting away in the corner of a yard in Wakfield

He could always have the weight increased to 4100kg
