Alternative to MS Autoroute for trip planning?

I use Apple Maps but I have a Mac, not sure if you can get it on other platforms or not. How about any of these:

The Best Offline Maps For Drivers
  • Google Maps: The All-Rounder.
  • Waze: The Crowd-Sourced Navigator.
  • HERE WeGo: The Offline Champion.
  • Citymapper: Your Urban Exploration Companion.
  • Tripadvisor: More Than Just Reviews.
  • MAPS.ME: Global Offline Navigation.
  • Komoot: The Outdoor Enthusiast's Choice.
  • Strava: The Athlete's Guide.

Sadly I think they are all phones or tablets.

Frustratingly I found my old "hacked" Autoroute 2013 CD and then had the job of finding a PC with a working CD Drive which I networked to my laptop but I think the CD itself is knackered. Got scratches and marks on it although it is attempting to install it. GRRRRRR! Found backups in this drawer from 2002. :D Even a Windows 98 CD.

Yes but remember the question you asked.

You want a large screen and offline route planning. That's not possible today on a laptop.

The solution is the one that I have offered.
Can do it on my MacBook ok

I could not get on with Komoot, it had a very clunky user interface and rarely did what I wanted.
Strava I could never find a way of using it without it wanting me to pay it some money.
Then I discovered Trekarta Give it a try.

Has nobody yet made an Android emulator that will work on a PC and let you use Android apps on a real computer?

I too hate pretending that a phone is a "computer" Apart from lack of keyboard and mouse, it does not have the basics of a real computer, multitasking with different programs open in different windows.

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail!!

We do a lot of travelling about on the bike though remember. So its extremely useful for that the night before you maybe go off somewhere for the day as sat nav on a scooter is tricky. All I have is Magic Earth or Google maps with a headset and its not 100% reliable. We also do a lot of mountains, big mountains so failing to prepare for those trips in the van can really ruin your day.

I get it from my dad though. He was a Headmaster and planned all the school trips with military precision. :D I have all our stops planned for the Euro trip for the first two months so far but then it all changed two days ago when Germany got added. :D
Adroid map on a mobile mounted up front will be best, set home and it will return you to van at the end of the day.

So close but no cigar! I finally found on an ancient hard drive a working Autoroute 2011 but despite trying all the known workarounds to get it to work on W11 (Well they were for Windows 10 originally) none of them got it past the splash screen. It installed ok. I tried installing and running as administrator, adding .net 3.5 framework, Overriding DPI scaling, running in compatibility mode (Windows 7) and all the old tricks but none of them worked.

I might have to admit defeat. I bet the 2013 version on the knackered CD would have worked. :D

I am lucky as i have a compass mind which meens i can find my way in most cases, this is tested most weeks when my wife tells me to get lost. 😂

Why not dual boot with windows10 or 8 or even 7 so that you can run Autoroute on that, Autoroute was discontinued in 2015 so it was not compatible with later versions of windows, it can be made to work with windows 10 though

I reckon if I had the 2013 version I could get it to work but I can't find it. Least not one that isn't corrupt. Not even available on the Pirate bay now. I guess ill have to admit defeat. Don't fancy going to the hassle of setting up a dual boot really.

Go the easy way and run it on a virtual machine then

I do enjoy doing some planning before a trip, even if there's little chance I'll stick to the plan. I just like mucking about with routes n maps.
I use wikiloc for tracks, and then google maps for most the planning I want to do. Very rarely if ever plan night stops, only time I did was when planning a convoy of 6 vehicles to Croatia. Won't be doing that again. :ROFLMAO:

Oh yeah cos that will be sooooo straight forward!

Probably need a W7 licence as well. In my experience (which is a long time ago) they are buggy as hell. Same goes for the Android emulators.
