I am 72 and I always use one of the comparison sites to get travel insurance. I have one medical condition which loads the premiums quite a bit.Anyone found amazing deals for the 90 days in Europe ( Spain France ) for a 71 year old and 58 year old it’s me who has health issues not the oldie
There's a huge range of cost as you will find. One thing to check before purchase - many insurers require you to hold a return (ferry) ticket which is noted in the policy document. I always buy a single ticket so I have to check the policy document to ensure that I'm covered.
If you use any of the cashback websites, e.g. Quidco, they offer decent amounts of cashback and a comparison facility. Well worth doing!

That`s precisely why we gave up going abroad, the wife has cancer and whilst she was covered with the existing policy when the renewal came we nearly fekking fainted, i didn`t know that such an high percentage increase was possible given all the years we`ve had travel insurance and never made a claim.
I did ring around and try comparison sites but they all came back with similar astronomical quotes which we simply could not afford.
Our other medical conditions loaded the policy by a tiny, tiny amount so that was fine but this could only be described as abhorrent to penalise someone who has developed a condition that was not caused by self infliction, over indulgence or anything like that.
This now gives me the opportunity to also say that we`ve given up motorhoming completely as well and our motorhome has been sold.

They really are the lowest of the low sometimes Graham and neither of you deserve this.
I hope you can take some nice breaks away in the UK with the proceeds of the sale and get away from those f****g neighbours as well for a bit. One thing's for sure, whoever bought your motorhome has probably got one of the best maintained vehicles in the country so I do hope you got a good price.

That is a bit of a gamble, you have effectively voided your policy. Perhaps you should set up your just giving account now in case you need repatriated.

I also have medical conditions which I deal with every day. The insurance covers me if thinks go wrong beyond the norm and I need help.
If something bad does happen the insurance will not pay up and you will be thousands in debt.
By not insuring your existing medical conditions you are taking placing a high stake bet, make sure you are prepared to foot the bill if you lose.
I expect my quote to be over £2k this year (76 with lots of medical issues), I will pay or stay in the UK.

If/when the insurance company find out about the stuff that you haven't declared they may well be able to link anything that happens to you back to those conditions...even if. as said above, the policy has not already been voided by your non admission.
Might be worth a rethink?

A couple of years ago Staysure said they would cover me, even though I was waiting to see a neurologist. The big no-no was that because of this they wouldn't cover me for any pre-existing conditions.
I was waiting to see a neurologist because a nerve in my leg was damaged during surgery. This meant they wouldn't cover me for asthma. Asthma kills, therfore no special holiday.
I hope it's not too late to cancel your insurance without loss Penny. Stick to France where they don't yet insist on insurance alongside whatever the EHIC is called these days.

Anyone who relies purely on the EHIC is gambling. Certainly it is useful for basic personal accident or sickness, but people should consider beyond the basic broken bones and sickness type of claim needed.
An example within my greater family circle. Elderly parent in very good health, both mentally and physically playing golf several times every week.
Suffers a stroke in Portugal. Requires long stay in hospital with husband having to find accommodation and associated costs of living to be with wife. Children need to fly out on a rota basis to support both parents.
Eventually after a few weeks she is flown home in private plane with medical staff accompanying as not fit enough or permitted to fly commercial airline.
I don't know the associated costs, but assume they would be substantial.
The papers are full of sad faced individuals appealing for money to help repatriate their family members who have had the misfortune to fall ill or have accidents abroad and have either invalidated their insurance or carry none at all.
Even a death becomes complicated if you need the body repatriated.

We took the decision to travel with our GHIC card to Europe with. insurance that excluded Dave's main pre-existing condition. But...we have already decided if anything happens we can stay at our home in Portugal and have a substantial fund put by if needed. Not a choice some would make, but we were happy with it.
