Insurance Europe 90 Days

Heart attack or similar? The emergency treatment may be covered, but the repatriation flight wouldn't. And then there's the cost of the accommodation and care during the 1 month driving ban if you decide to recuperate in France and then drive home, routine medication for the heart care post-discharge etc. My 'can't think what I would need to pay' came out at £620+, and that was paring everything back to the bone in terms of expenditure!

Steve
I see what you say, but as we can both drive it is different for us.

Anyone found amazing deals for the 90 days in Europe ( Spain France ) for a 71 year old and 58 year old it’s me who has health issues not the oldie ;)
We ended up taking out single trip with LV covered all shenanigan and Balkans not quite as old as 78 but both over 55 with health issues just over 300 for both for 6 months

I hope Penny sees your post. That seems a good price to me for 6 months cover.

We've used Saga for several years, first health problems the premium jumped up.
We've used Caravan Club this year, their premium for12 months was cheaper than 2 months with Saga .Might be worth trying.

In case anyone else is interested Total Travel Protection gave us the best quote £248 with my conditions included others where £370 plus and this quote was a £500 excess it’s now £150 for medical.

And just a note why have none of the boys who travel without insurance not been given 💩 !!!

Thank you to those who helped in a productive manner much appreciated 💜🩷💚💛🩵🧡💙

After my cancer diagnosis, two ops, and then the "yes we have got it all you are clear" my annual travel insurance went from 80 a year to over 900 a year.
Surely you must be less of a risk after the specialists have told you that you are clear. Some 5 plus years later and the official all clear it's still now well up there.
The only one I would recommend is All Clear.

For our trips to Morocco, up to 120 days away, I found Avanti (same group as Staysure) gave us the best deal for pre existing conditions. Never needed to claim so no idea about that side of things, but it was easy to extend the policy by a week when we were invited to stay with friends in France one time.

Has anyone used the GMHC card an how'd it work I'm relying on it now as like Woolie We'v been priced out of the insurance.
Repatriation is easily done in a urn after a cremation brought a friend back a few years ago

Wife collapsed in Italy last year . Carted off in Ambulance , all manner of tests done and returned none the worse at midnight.
We have private medical , GHIC , S1 and also on Spanish state system.
We were presented with a very reasonable bill which I discussed with the Italian hospital as how best to pay. Couldn't visit easily as nowhere to park van nearby.
In the end a very nice Italian lady rang me and said dont worry the UK government is covering your bill.
Nit sure which route she went but nice to get something back after paying in gir 40 years.

Have a look at the Nationwide Flex current account. They used to cover up to age 70, but this year they got rid of that and you're just covered. Not sure about health issues, so worth checking. It's £13 a month, but rising to £18 a month in December. So thats £216, but for that you get mobile phone insurance (for all the family) and breakdown cover including for motorhomes. It's UK and Europe cover and is covered by the AA. I thought £13 was really good for that and £18 is still pretty good too.

I do wonder if the Italians milk the system when they get a sick Brit. Its a long story this but ill try to keep it brief. I think it was 2012. August in the Italian Alps. Michelle suffers from Kidney stones and 4000ft up a Mountain in the middle of nowhere she got one stuck and couldnt pass it in the middle of the night (I wanted to take her to hospital then but she refused). By 6am she was in trouble and couldnt pee even though she was bursting. So I hurriedly get off the mountain, found a hospital, abandoned the van outside the main entrance and got her in. To say they acted quickly and gave us their full attention would be an understatement. We had interpreters, several surgeons / doctors etc and it was all sorted quickly and the stone removed. That wasn't it though. They then decided they wanted to transfer her to Trento Hospital 20 miles up the road for further tests and for their top consultant to take look. This is the funny bit. I ended up chasing an Italian Ambulance with its lights going through the Alps in August. :D I never lost it though.

The top surgeon (a woman) having done various scans etc was very grave saying she would need operations etc and they could do it straight away. I think we both started to think this was all a bit much by then. She had been in this situation before and once the stone is passed she is fine after 24 hours or so. Anyway we declined and she discharged herself. Right back at the start it all sprang into motion when we produced the EHIC card. I was expecting a massive bill but no, nothing. I presume though they will have sent a whopping bill to the NHS. Never heard from them either and that was that. I Could be wrong and maybe its just great service in the Alps of course.

LOL! God no! She was funny though. Well, more scary funny really. Like some bonkers hammer horror villain. Doctor death Michelle decided to call her.

I'm in Jaipur now and talking to a 84 year old lady from UK about insurance. She pays £270 for a annual worldwide policy but has to pay a extra £75 to add usa and Australia to it..she has no health issues...
Guess who I'm phoning in the future...
" Staysure "
She does have some health conditions for sure but does not show it or know it.
If she makes a claim they will say? ? You can guess the rest

We always just winged it with just the EHIC card often for up to six months. I have yet to put the new GHIC card to the test but there was hardly a year went by when we didnt use the EHIC card in Europe and it worked really well. I dare say there would be a situation where it might not but certainly in the past it did.
If you keeled over dead out there it would cost a mint to repatriat u. Could be cheaper to be cremated there and be brought back in a jam jar, making sure ur other half obtains a death certificate. On the other hand once the medics have carried out not dead yet emergency care, u then have to pick up the tab for ongoing care and medical repatriation. Cheaper to drop dead innit. U have to weigh up your options!
