Macron rules the country as he was elected to do like it or not and at the moment many French do not. Our Parliament does the same as it’s members were elected to do. The monarch does not take an active part in politics and is above it, you cannot compare the French system with the Monarchy they are like chalk sand chess.
The Monarchy being above politics is a myth, I'm afraid. The Monarch has the right to influence new laws that don't suit [the Queen had a right of veto over some 160 such laws], and King Charles has, and has used, similar rights to alter laws that don't suit him; and Buck House retained a right of veto over the broadcast content of the Coronation, arguably the ultimate propaganda tool

Nothing shameful about it what would be shameful would be to become a republic imagine the damage some of the PMs could have done as presidents judging by the damage they did as PMs.
Politically naive nonsense but absolutely no connection with your
I totally agree. Not a royalist but tradition is very important and something to be proud of. No one is forced to be part of it but the majority do as it’s a very special day for this country.
In many ways I am a traditionalist but the royal tradition?
These people became our lords and masters through brute force . The peasantry were treated as lesser beings than farm animals. They worshipped and revered the king/queen because of fear . The fear factor has been removed and yet people still worship and revere them .
The human race is very strange

Threads about religion, politics royalty are always going to end up in a bun fight I'm afraid ...
Most folks have extremely limited ability to accept that other folks have different views and beliefs ...

Personally I've got no views one way or the other ...
BUT I'm enjoying the extra day off up in the Peak District with my other half and the hounds .

I don’t worship or fear the monarchy🤷‍♂️. I just feel traditions are treasures and should be treated as such. It’s fair to say judging by this thread the majority of the British public enjoy the tradition.

Charles is not personally responsible for the rise in food banks.

Suggest you draw your own conclusions on the reasons for that particular thorny issue.

I'm not a monarchist, it's an inherited "tradition" we've had for over 1,000 years and I can pretty much take it or leave it.

The royal family are like a Curate's Egg.

As for Charles, I've always quite liked him, and particularly his opinions and approach on environmental issues.

As for the vitriol displayed towards Camilla, it seems that was a case of the "family" (and their so-called advisors) disapproving of her, long before he married Diana which it seems was 100% out of the "traditional necessity" to produce an heir to the throne. Otherwise he and Camilla might have been happily married in the first place. At least they've had the chance to eventually be together. It's a strange life to be living and I wouldn't begrudge them, or anyone else, the chance for some shared personal happiness.

Wonder how many members on here have experienced broken relationships/marriages?
If you happen to have a happy monogamous marriage/relationship then count yourself lucky and blessed, just don't be so morally smug and superior about other people's relationships - and that includes towards Charles and Camilla.

As I said the fear factor has gone and , rather obviously, people worship the royals .

I don’t worship the royals but I do admire him and believe that they are good for the country let’s face it we were leaders in industry and manufacturing now look at us the laughing stock of the world the only thing we have left is our Royal family and they have acted on criticism over the years got rid of all the hangers on slimmed down the actual working royals and the money spent on the coronation is a mere dip in the ocean compared to the money wasted on government giving friends contracts throughout the pandemic that has been written off and the massive profits that are being made in the food industry and not forgetting the fuel profits even the NHS is now big business and money being wasted day in day out. At the end of the day they are a family with all the baggage that comes with lots of families but Charles at least tries to give back to the youth of this country .
I’ll step back and wait for more flack. 😂
