C&CC Price Rises

Friends currently working for the C&CC tell me the fees are going up to £50 per night at the site where they are just now.

Apparently the electric bill is already around £300k per year, so I guess the increase in energy fees when they arrive later this year will soon be making an even bigger impact for everyone right across the board. 🤷‍♀️😟

I think like all sites they will have to adjust prices to take in effect electric prices, let alone all the other price rises, also they may well be paying a much higher price as they won't be on a 'price cap'.

What is that total for Marie ?

Why can’t they charge separately for elec. many of us simply don’t need it most of the time.
Most (maybe now all?) C&CC sites have 'grass no electric', 'grass with electric', and 'Hardstanding with electric', this means in winter/wet you are pretty much stuck with paying for it, in Summer/dry then you can usually have a 'no electric' pitch. With current electric prices maybe they will have a rethink, but I wouldn't be betting on it.

Post Flandemic the C&CC Sites are Uber region now. I recommended my Old Man get a van and enjoy it just before the Flandemic I said to use the economical easy to use C&CC Sites. In retrospect it was not valid advice for long. The post Flandemic reality is now Staycations, inflations high Fuel costs and short supply of good priced vehicles. He still has the wheels though booking in to sites is tricky compared to before. If you are a true Wilder you can still get by though if you haven't built up that skill set it looks like everyone is suddenly shopping at Harrods as their local corner shop.🤠

I think the C&MC have also put their prices up by a quid or two as well.

I cancelled my subscription to the C&CC this year after 8 years as a member. We haven't stayed on one of their sites for over 4 years now. Their insistence on 2 night stays at certain times stepped us from using them when en route to places and also the 25% deposit (although the C&MC are bring that in as well) didn't hep either.

I would note the 'two night' rule for certain times of year only applies if booking a pitch, but can be inconvenient.

Remember that the C&CC have "Service stop offs" where their members can go to certain sites to empty waste and fill water, also use showers. £7.65 allows you to stop for up to 3 hours. www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/campsites/facilities/service-stop-off-points
The list of sites where this is available is on the link. They don't advertise it and it takes a bit of finding on their website.

It was every weekend for the pace we wanted to stay at en route to the south coast.

I have recently booked c&cc main sites for Cornwall in june. As I am a single senior I get a fantastic reduced rate which is hard to beat. I even got a special rate mid week for grass no electric.
Perhaps the cost of running the big motor homes is going to be a problem, especially when you include fuel rises.
The little Van's that don't have all the frills are becoming more desirable maybe??

What we do is ring on the day to enquire if they have a pitch for the night, have often been told if we want it booked then need to pay for two nights, but I always say "that's ok I'll just turn up, if you have a pitch for one night I'll take it", the only place that gave us a problem was a franchised site in west country on A30 (no longer C&CC) who would always insist I needed to pay two nights, and I would just say "I'm only paying for one".

Fortunately they are more reasonable on a recent enquiry. It does seem they insist on availability by Grass pitches. Fine if this doesn't bother you too much. They are often out of the way compared to frontline locations. In some expensive areas it averages out so can be beneficial. They of course charge for other services like Laundry etc. Maybe with rise of costs in general, the hardstanding is prioritised for the larger more luxurious vehicles. It is an institution by modern standards and no doubt ideal for Caravanners.🐶

I think The American Vans and MH are probably all but parked considering the amount of fuel they use and most are Petrol. I would dread to think of the budget for Travel in one of those. The small reliable old diesels have always been collectable of course to some they are entry level. Though they have advantages when travelling through narrow or historic routes. Prices have increased significantly in recent years and now there is some Dieselmongering about the Green ness. Though it takes a heck load of energy to make the Van in the first place so reusing one as long as poss is not bad in real terms. When prices are Good Yank Swank is all the Rage. When prices are hard they make use as a spare room on the house I guess.

That wouldn't suit us at all as we like to know where we will be staying every night well in advance.

The C & CC website is a bit of a mare to find anything on, but what the club offers as Temporary Holiday Sites and DA rally meets is superb. There are now loads all over the country, they are cheap, friendly, very well run and offer everything an off site camper needs. Look them up if you can manage to navigate the dreaded website.

D’you know, that bloody C&CC website is the most unwieldy I’ve come across for years. The part that works best is the payment section. Funny that innit?

It was bound to happen. I dont really use sites but in the UK I do use a fair few CL sites. Many of those last year were £20 a night for ones with hookup so I expect they will be more like £25 or more this year. Thankfully it seems there are still a fair few boggy basic no EHU out in the sticks CLs left with nothing but a tap and emptying. Ill be seeking them out or wilding mainly this summer. Just got my new AGM battery of RichardHelen off here which seems brilliant and the solar is working well with it so fingers crossed we will be EHU free until mid September at least.

It would make sense to me to have electricity metered though. A lot of the Stellplatz I have used in Germany do this. Its much better. Stops the "Ive paid for it so ill use it" brigade hiking the prices running fan heaters in Awnings all day long etc. Cost a lot to retrofit though I guess.

I would be more than happy for leccy to be charged PAYG. There are too many times we have had to pay for EHU when we had nowhere to stick it in, just because we wanted to be near to friends or weren’t allowed on grass.
Appreciate it would be quite an infrastructure cost.
