I was parked near the canal in a carpark with no signs or restrictions.
A volunteer from the IWA rudely acused me of being a freeloader!
I buy chips from the local chippy and beer from the tesco and from the pub just up the canal!
So I asked ''what am I getting for free that anyone who turns up in a car is not getting?

What do you or would you say in reply to anyone acusing you of being a ''freeloader'' while wilding in your van ?

fiund the letter that was posted by kimbowbil and say read this if yoou think we are a bunch of freeloaders

That my van has provided jobs to not only the guys at the dealership but also to the guys at the converters and also the guys at the factories that made all the fixtures and fittings and also the factory that built the chassis as well !
Then ask him what he has in his boring little life ?

Not to mention the guys at North Sea Gas providing your new cylinder every three days :D:lol-049:

"Yes Dear" without looking up and "sorry I thought you where the mother-in-law" when I did look up.

I'd tell him I certainly was not a freeloader, and just as as soon as I phone them, 6 more vans would be joining me in providing the local neighbourhood with a valued front drive tarmacing and roofing repair service, for the next 4 weeks.
Of course if he bunged me say £50 I might find another locality and ply my non freeloading services there instead.

I have just wilded within 200 yds of a forestry commission site.

More rules and regs than you can shake a stick at,, not one arrive with common sense ..leave with (fill in the cliche).......19 quid a night 24 if you want electric.....no thanks...parked unlike a sardine...did have someone hoot at 8.00 am thanks...needed to get the brekkie on before the off.

Why would I wildcamp...?....every reason known...last night..I saw headlights in the van at ..4.20 am..but Tbh couldn't be bothered to investigate perhaps police having a gander..

,Actually for the view alone this morning I would have been happy to pay and no weekend warriors..

I don't think I would have said anything - why bring myself down to his level? A shrivelling stare would have been enough, I think.

should have said u were looking at buying property in the area but thanks to u i will try a different area.:ninja:

But we are free-loading, by definition. It means getting something for nothing & we are getting a site to stay, a lovely view a bit of peace & quite. What more can you ask?

Just ask him what his objection is & offer him a cup of coffee or a beer while you chat about it. I'm sure you could answer every possible objection.

I passed BWB van on the M6 today & it had been repainted with a new marketing logo that included a statement on the lines of "Visit your local river or canal for instant relaxation":lol-061:

I suspect he is feeling frightened by the change from Govt Dept to charity which has cost them a few jobs which have suddenly become "Voluntary" positions. They have to earn all their own income now, so expect them to start charging for people overnighting in carparks when they realise the potential.

I wouldn't like to think I freeload and personal finances dictate I can't chuch money about Willy. Nilly..

But in the example I gave, what benefit would I have derived or the local community other than lining a till centrally somewhere?

To pay 19,quid be parked next to some one , have to pay a fiver more for electric which would have been useful but not essential....so I freeloaded?

Tesco didn't think so only 8 quid on egg milk. Bread and bits and bats..

I assume that the shelf stackers cashiers were local and not imports...

On that basis did my little bit for the economy

Did he answer your question?

Why is getting something for free a bad thing. To me its the next best thing to winning something.:p

IWA Idiot

I think I would have asked him how he proposed on getting out of the Canal. Maybe after his apology I would offer him a not so friendly hand. Joking aside I wouldn't let someone speak to me like that. Ignorant Idiot I say!

Various responses spring to mind, depending on his attitude and whether I bothered to take him seriously.

I may show him my British Waterways master key, then ask him to direct me to their nearest service area as I need to top up with fresh water for free!! :boat:

I would have shook his hand and said "Thank you very much, that`s the nicest thing anybodys said to me today" (with a grin).

Sarcasm being the lowest form of wit would have showed the contempt for what he had said, if he had the intelligence to comprehend what you meant.
