Yet Another frozen pipe problem,,,,

Hi Guys ive been a very silly Mothman i did not drain the van down i have water sitting in the on board water tank,,,, so this morning i took a look in the van to find frozen water pipes,, ive left the fan heater in there going to try and drain down the water when its running again,, so guys am i right in thinking that the Truma boiler holds water??? how can i drain the boiler please?? i cant see anyway of draining it,, whats the best avenue from now please guys,,

Hello Mothman,

My Truma hot water boiler has a temperature sensitive switch that releases the water and wont reset unless the air temperature is sufficient. Its positioned right next to the hot water tank, I think its brown.If you cant find yours i will send a picture. Give us a shout if you want me to take a pic.

all mine vans have always had a switch or lever at the front of the boiler on the floor area, sometimes red in colour,

on mine if it didnt drain automatic i could press the switch to manualy drain it down
 
there should be a pipe leading out of the van below the boiler so all the water drains outside. i will go out and take a pic of my switch on my current van

mine is definitively automatic, it drops down and water poors from a drain pipe under the van. However its red on looking not brown, you pull it up to reset but the temperature has to be warm enough.

my switch was the same as james on my last van, i think it used to dump the water automaticly at about 1 degree, we used to put a pet on it to stop it when we was away in the winter lol,
heres pics of my current one

as you can see upright is open and i just flick it down to close it and refill
 
Mine would be different wouldnt it:mad2: cant find any switch or valve at all!!! just a red pipe going into top of boiler & clear pipe half way up boiler, i cant see anyway of draining it,,,, does the Truma boiler hold much water?

maybe some pics some 1 on here might recognise your boiler? i think but not 100% they hold about 12 litres?
 
Cheers for that,, very similer boiler if not the same,, but ive not got the said drain valve at all,,,
What do you think i should do to drain it?

If there IS a drain, it has to be in the silver braided pipe surely?
 
The valve like Tommy shows in his picture maybe located in the vicinity to your electric water pump as mine is on the Kontiki and not in the boiler compartment.
 
Hi ***** UPDATE,, ive just found the Yellow water dump coming off the silver pipe UNDER THE SINK in a finger hole,,,its too frozen to relese the water so ive took the silver pipe off the Boiler and drained all the water out of it, just have to try to warm the van up to get rid of the ice in the pipes then see if any damage has been caused? ive broken the water pump now being heave handed:mad2::mad2::mad2: So thanks for the advice really good of you and all,

This is the pump its a Reich Euro - power pump
12volts dc
15L/min 1,0bar,

Does the writing on the pump mean anything to you guys? best place to buy one, Ebay????

Just had another thought. Check for any little trap doors in any pipe runs, possibly wooden boxing around them. Usually in under bunk storage areas.

So when the system is back up and running is there anything i need to do ie bleed it in any way or does the boiler not need anything doing to it, is it a case of just filling up the on board water? does that fill the boiler automaticaly????
