So through the this pandemic I have done very little wilding alone when Boris allowed Bill has been with me the 2/3 times so yesterday getting ready to go to Hereford a slow tootle down I realised this was the first time out in the motorhome on my own and it started to freak me out a little, Bill kept asking what day are you leaving my answers were very non comital I was saying things like I might go Monday orimight wait and drive straight there on Thursday and I could feel myself getting a little panicky inside and I thought ive been locked in so long the thought of wilding alone was making me have my worry head on for absolutely no reason whatsoever. 😥
so last night I bit the bullet and set off to a safe well used location good drive down so I knew driving wasn’t the problem but once my destination was reached at about midnight I could not get to sleep every little sound was keeping me awake at first then I must have dozed off and slept like a log until about 7.45 ish so what was I worried about this corona virus has a lot to answer for being in the van on my own has always been my happy place so I hope this is just a minor hiccup while I get back into the swing of things

I think a lot of people will need a reset when they first venture out, I suppose that first trip out becomes like the VERY first trip out all those years ago. Your mind forgets you have done it all before and there really is no psycho axe murderer out to get you. I suppose it's just a case of getting back into the groove?

A hiccup I think. We've spent months reading about councils putting up barriers and signs, locals not wanting campers blighting their area, it all sinks in and leaves you feeling unwelcome and like you are doing something wrong. Iran springs to mind, the press would have you believe 'western whitey' would have his/her capitalist head cut off if they visited, whereas actual travel blogs written by nationals that can enter but are still 'westerners' always mention how welcoming and pleased the locals are that they have visited.

Do you know what a lot of people who have never wild camped ask me about it and is it safe. I always mention yourself and tell them about how you have been doing it for years on your own and that you fare get about. I tell them about carol who travels to Spain on her own. Couple of nights out and you’ll be back to normal. 😎

This has definitely affected people, you're not alone. And affected in other ways all related to not going out.

Louise has even been quite weird about anywhere even remotely busy like walking around on the waterfront in Bristol. After just a couple of visits to similar places she's back to normal (!)

So don't worry x

Lockdown has knocked my confidence in all sorts of ways too and I’ve rarely slept well for months, including not a wink last night 😢 I’m hoping this trip will be all the therapy that’s needed... then I’ll get to work on the ‘rona stone I’ve put on 🤣 See you soon Annie 💋

My wife (who has anxiety issues already) has been affected by the lockdown isolation. She had to shield for the majority of it so seldom went anywhere apart form staying in the car when I went into a shop. In January she had to do the food shopping as I had Covid and was too unwell to do it. Since then, with shops now open, she has been in to the odd one but doesn't feel comfortable.

Whilst this is good for the bank balance, it isn't great for her mental health. we are taking it one step at a time and also making sure that we chat to anyone we can where possible, if we are out on a walk locally. We have also met up with my brother and his partner twice as well. Every little helps.

I do wonder about the people in NI if what Trev describes is accurate

Just because there is no one physically there to hold your hand and tell you you are being a naughty boy doesn't mean it is ok to act in a stupid way.
