Wild camping banned in the whole of Wales

I think the BBC have overstated the case. With the exception of Scotland, and other areas of the UK where "right to roam" agreements exist, it is still trespass if you occupy private land without the owner's consent. So the BBC have simply given a "sensationalised" take on what has always been the case. The removal of cars around Snowdon was to do with causing obstructions on the highway and lots of warnings had been given that cars would be towed away this weekend if people did not act sensibly.

The BBC have stated in a report that wild camping in a tent or campervan is banned in wales completely without the land owners permission:-

The police are actively moving vehicles on.

It has always been banned off-road, so I agree with Dave about the BBC making a meal of this. There has never been permission for a tent or a motorised vehicle to be used to sleep in overnight under the Right to Roam act in England and Wales.

However, I didn't think you needed any landowner's permission to park safely and suitably on a public highway or designated public vehicle parking place, as long as your vehicle is legal and fully compliant with current road law.

The Countryside Code will also have been applied in the above case, where I suspect ignorant townsfolk have probably been flocking there and acting like selfish kn*bs. :)

You are ok if parked on the public highway as long as you are not contravening any traffic orders or causing an obstruction, you don’t need any further permissions, assuming the vehicle is taxed insured mot etc 👍😂

I'm being to get paronoid... we planned a holiday to france (first holiday abroad in over 18 years) and covid hit and now this 'wild camping banned in all of Wales' am I doomed to not have a holiday! Got to laugh

I love going to Wales, wild camping, walking and enjoying the countryside, etc, but in my view, understandably as they have come out of lock down later than England, they are going to be more twitchy about being descended upon by hoards of visitors, so I’m keeping to my local patch for a good while longer in Devon and Cornwall in the quite places I know and will consider getting back to Wales in a month or so, that’s all being well and when the dust has settled, I hope.

The BBC haven't "overstated" anything, they have reported on what's happening. Quite clearly in those photo's there are several illegally parked vehicles.

I thought so too but I'm sure the police moved people on (who were asleep) in Cornwall who were parked on the road...should they have not done so?

The OP was about wild camping being banned as if it was a new situation, the photos relate to cars parked illegally in contravention of a solid white line and causing obstructions. The "overstated" point was about the "banning" issue, not the parked cars,

Not sure, if it was during lockdown, presumably the occupants were far from home ?

There are wild campers and there are wild campers. There are those that will park legally and considerately at all times and those that will park where ever they want without any thought to anyone but themselves. There are those that will happily pay what ever the cost to park where they are supposed to and those that actively seek to park for free invariably where they shouldn't. 9 years into motorhoming and you can probably see where I am going with this, take your van and park it where it's supposed to be every night and no one gives a hoot, do otherwise and you annoy folk.
You seem to be saying on a Wildcamping forum that we should only use caravan parks or those few car parks that allow overnighting.

Can you define the "Park where its SUPPOSED TO BE"
Bit for me please?

I don't consider the following "overstated", it is just reporting what the police have said.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority has issued a warning over illegal camping after 19 penalty charge notices were issued last weekend around the county.

Wild camping, in a tent or campervan, is banned in Wales without the landowner's permission.

Wild camping
isn't
illegal camping,
illegally parked vehicles can be towed away or ticketed as stated in Highway code & when and where there's Are clear information signs. But not illegal signs like you will be clamped

Its the lack of balance, it may well be what the Police statement said, but the reporter failed to mention that the same situation applies in all National Parks in England and Wales.

The car parks in Powys allow overnight parking. I include them in my wild camping or free stops.
I guess the authorities don't want lots of Van's in the beauty spots and I don't blame them. But hopefully not THE WHOLE OF WALES is out of bounds.

There are problems across a lot of UK at the moment, the 'wild camping' mentioned in the report seems to be actual wild camping, in tents in the wild, plus illegal and dangerous parking of vehicles (mainly cars from the photo's), it's a short report and the reporter hasn't gone into it chapter and verse, but then we can hardly expect them to do that on any subject unless you want to read pages of reporting on every story.
