There is nothing more annoying than when somebody sticks there generator downwind of their van & you get the noise droning on into your van.
Absolutely!

Well as they say " A friend in need is a damned nuisance"
when i'm 'wild' camping i tend to not be near enough to any other camper to be able to hear anything they might be up to ,or vice versa.
unless i'm with friends, who might have a valid reason to run a genny for a while, which wouldn't bother me
also,it's a big world out there,if there is another camper nearby that bothers you, move on,especially if they got there first.
3 weeks ago we were on a busy aire in France when a German van decided to start a generator at around 2 pm. It was only a small Honda generator but the noise could be heard throughout the site. One by one neighbours came across to ask for the generator to be turned off. The owner would shout them down and ignore their request until eventually a French man came fom across the other side of the site and turned the generator off. There was huge applaud and clapping throughout the site. They never turned it on again and they left the next day to everyone's relief. They are not sociable things and not advisable for sites/aires

Ever year I stay for extended periods in the alps. Generators are common place and used regularly for battery charging and for other stuff. Mine gets used for back up 240volts and heating systems. To be honest dogs that bark continually and throughout the night are more annoying in my opinion.
I don't suppose people actually ask their dogs to bark.
