I like my Duvalay but they are a trifle too dear, since the dragon from Dragons Den got involved and screwed them to the ground for a loan. I bought mine at a show and the bloke on the stand said it was water stained so dropped £25 off, when I opened ithe pack it was Waterlogged not waterstained ,so I had to wash it in the bath to g get the smell of damp out of it, it took over ten days to dry after I squeezed all the water out by rolling it, it was still damp for a long time before I could use it. but now it is just fine. The things I do to get a bargain, must be from the Scotland effect where my mum came from,

Always used a normal duvet normally a winter 1....on the odd occasion that things got a bit cold we just put some warmer clothes on and some thick socks!
Never used hot water bottles in the van as up until the van we have just purchased always slept on an airbed.
Now have spoilt ourselves and got a rock and roll bed aswell as a night heater :sleep-027::sleep-027:

I have never managed to get with airbeds. Always seem to either roll off them or sink in the middle!

Or Dave comes to bed after me, sits on the edge like a sack of spuds and catapults me off the bed!

I find Memory Foam Mattresses very comfy initially, but like you said, it gets too hot soon afterwards.
Which IKEA mattress did you get? I have one in my bed at home (the Sultan, I think it is called) but too firm. Was planning on getting an IKEA one for the Camper this coming weekend, but want a bit softer.

Ah - I think the answer in your post ? "Morgedal"?

c'mon now, you gonna tell me next all you with french beds aint got one of these, extremely comfy :)

Both our over-garage fixed and drop-down over-cab are king-size and have good mattresses without need for supplement.

So, we use domestic duvets and sheets and real feather/down pillows. We have summer and winter duvet thicknesses, and we carry 3 sets of covers and sheets, for longer without laundry.

All good old John Lewis.

If we could not have that set-up as at home ot would not be a 'motorhome' but a camper as far as I am concerned.

Stripped the bed for the wash today after being away for 5 nights so seemed a good time to take a picture to show what I ended up with after posting the intial question ....

Clarence Bed
by David, on Flickr
Bottom to Top
IKEA Pine Bed Frame (raised on Stilts); with Slats to support the Mattress and Silver Bubble-Foil under slats for both insulation and to keep the bottom of the mattress clean & isolated from any underbed storage dust
IKEA "Malfors" Medium-Firm Mattress
5cm Feather Topper (originally bought for previous T5 Conversion but never used as wrong shape)
IKEA Cotton Mattress Protector
This bed is sooooo comfy it is unreal :cool1:

Bedding wise, using Bamboo Pillows at the top and a standard Double Duvet (Will bring out the King-Size Duvet from the house when two of us going away in future. The current Double is fine for one, but not when two are trying to tuck into it!)

About 8 years ago I bought a 12 v electric underblanket, and it has been invaluable during the colder months, gone are the days of lemonade bottles filled with warm water.

I currently use a combination of both !

I use a kingsize duvet folded into a single duvet cover and that gets used as a topper to the standard bench seat foam cushion.

I then zipped 2 sleeping bags together on one side only and use them that way.

As the sleeping bags drop almost to the floor, no drafts !!

I also use normal pillows.

I bought an electric blanket a couple of years ago but never used it. will add that to the layers next month probably.
Best under the mattress protector?

In our current van - ancient Autosleeper Legend - the bench seats make up v. large double.

Double size winter & summer cotton duvets 10.5. and 4.5. The duvets are interchangeable as mattress toppers or top quilt, depending on temperature. Normal house pillows and duvet covers/pillow slips. If we went away in really cold winter weather I would swop the summer quilt out and take another winter quilt from inside the house instead.

Heavy quality fleece on top of whichever duvet is on the bottom acts as a sheet.

The bottom duvet & the fleece are tucked in firmly around & under the sides = nil slippage through the night.

I always take both quilts regardless of time of year, apart from the odd occasion OP has sneaked one back out without me knowing, his argument being that a second quilt 'takes up too much room' {sigh} On those occasions only the fleece was used as combined topper/bottom sheet.

All bedding stores easily in the overhead cab with LOADS of storage space left over for other stuff. OP please take note!

The bed is surprisingly comfortable, no dips or bumps or awkward bits, but I'd probably get pretty fed up having to make it up every night if living in it for long periods.

Hot water bottle on board at all times for v. cold nights, skylights always vented through the night.

Four season sleeping bag, snugged up if very cold, zip halve down if if chilly, zip fully open if cool and naked on top if warm. 4 tog or 12 tog duvet if we are both in the MH.

As more upmarket, discerning, southern motorhomers we sleep under silk.

Many years ago while travelling through China we visited a silk factory and purchased two kingsized quilts.

We put these into a cotton duvet cover and the result is very naice. ( vere naas )

Regardless of outside temperature the bed stays at 98.4 ish.

Dezi :sleep-027:
Snap! we did the same we also use memory foam pillows and our sleeping attire is a track suit in Winter and T shirt and shorts in Summer.

I agree buying duvets these days is cheaper than dry cleaning and all the plavor getting it there
i wait for a good fine spell of weather.....put duvet in wash machine at launderet.......bring it home to dry outside....sorted .....cost 2.50 ......even taken a feather one to wash...sewed it into a duvet cover first.......takes a bit more looking after when drying tho.

seats make up into two beds...always keep one made up....i need to lie down often......just use domestic bedding which is only used for van....nothing exciting or expensive or luxurious..............luxury is my hotwater bottle...wouldnt be without it.....
