Warrant work

We purchased a new Chausson from Lowdhams, Nottingham in June 2010. We are very pleased overall with this van apart from a few minor problems which came to light in the first 6 months. The main problem being that the show door is coming apart and needs new hinges which we have been waiting for since January this year. Numerous phone calls, e mails and letters have produced no response, no even the courtesy of a reply. How can we force Lowdhams to undertake this work. Any suggestions?

Wild camp across their gates until they do something, send photos to local and national press.:king::king::king:

A crucial issue is whether you informed them within the first 6 months. If you did, then you can quote the 1979 sale of Goods Act which says basically that they are in Breach of Contract and must repair/replace at their cost - including your travel to and from them!

The idea of wild camping and effectively 'being in their face' and pestering them until they do something is one that I think might work, especially at the weekend. Alternatively you could join Which Legal and get loads of advice on how to get the result you want.

Do you have copies of all the letters (were the letters recorded) and e-mails sent to them?
Do you have a record of when you phoned them and who you talked to?
If you do, then the CAB should be able to guide you to the best course of action.

thanks for all your advice and support. its not a big thing but it really annoys me that they make loads of money and will not provide back up to rectify small problems

also forgot to say we are now planning to visit the Chausson factory on our way through France in a couple of weeks and hope they will rectify the problem. We did inform Lowdham in the first 6 months but they are a waste of space. If they had phoned and explained there was a problem obtaining the parts it would have been ok but they can't be bothered even to do that!! It says it all really. Our friends just bought a new motorhomeand we advised them to go elsewhere

I would get a quote from another dealer to put right the work, then 'threaten' them with the fact that if they don't rectify it within, say 28 days you'll get the other company to put it right and then sue them for the money via the small claims court!

I've found the CAB and the threat of legal proceedings to work very well, especially as the courts always take the side of 'the little man'!!

If you go to the dealers to complain make sure it's on a day when there will be lots of potential customers around to hear you complaining. Although, at the present time of year there may not be many people shopping for motorhomes.

If you are going down to the show at the NEC in october or the show at Lincoln go to their stand and make a nuisance of yourself and show them up. You shouldn't have to belittle yourself but dealers who have no respect for their customers deserve all the adverse publicity you can throw at them. They are all over you like a rash until they get your money, but fortunately not all dealers are like yours. Good luck.

Just to add, there's a lot to be said about buying a British made motorhome. AutoTrail have very good customer backup and are on the end of the phone should you need help or advice, Their approved dealers are usually very good. If you need parts you can order them direct from the factory, you dont need to go through a dealer and they are delivered to your door. The build quality is very good as well.
