Vehicle Excise Duty. otherwise known as Tax Grab.

They are though. Way too big and here's the thing. There are millions of them and the numbers are only going to increase. Motorhomes are a tiny minority in comparison. You only have to ride around Devon and Cornwall in summer (on a bike preferably) to see what a PIA they are and just not suited for those tiny roads and its just going to get worse. They cause chaos. Maybe they should tax "cars" on how physically big they are then. They do more miles, more damage and cause more congestion than little cars. Not motorhomes though as they are a small minority and don't do anywhere near the same miles which by your own admission when they do its often outside of the Uk.

I also think the rise in home delivery, for everything from a paper clip or cup of coffee to elephant, can't be helping much.

OK, so it provides jobs, but also means way more commercial vehicles everywhere. Catch 22. 🤷‍♀️

Its probably a good thing around here though deep into rural North Yorkshire. One Tesco van can do dozens of deliveries to many houses saving dozens of people doing a thirty mile round trip to their nearest Tescos. If you can walk to the shops though then you should do that. :D

I often visit Cornwall, not usually in summer, the roads are awash with VW Transporters.

Last three summers we have been in Cornwall and Devon across the summer holidays and you hardly see any motorhomes. In fact often the CLs are half empty. Yes there are always a few "camper vans", generally surfers but the main culprit clogging up the roads are cars. Great big ones. Come mid September there are definitely more motorhomes about but they are still a finite amount whereas the tendency for bigger and fatter cars is snowballing. The roads as they are now down there at least just weren't made to accommodate them. If people want to drive two and three ton tanks and do 40000 miles a year in them its right that they pay for that accordingly.

Even the humble Mini has piled on the beef! The fact that they can still call it a "mini" is laughable. This is what we all need. The one on the left. :ROFLMAO:

I was round my mates yesterday Barry and he has a Sierra Cosworth on the drive. I always thought of them as quite a large car back in the day but seeing his next to a modern car it looked tiny.

Yes they were considered a big car back in the 90s. :D One of my boaty pals had one way back in the day. Quick car even by modern standards I think. I wish they would bring back some of the old 90s coupes although I was never a fan of the sierra shape.

Inheritance tax is a horrible despicable way to tax folk regardless of the actual farms value involved, passing it down in the family is due to death in most cases so it's a death tax in reality, there should be no taxation unless it is sold out of the family.
Kev, the main idea behind inheritance tax is to attempt to create a more equal society. There are children who are born into poverty whilst others are born into wealth. Many talented children fail to achieve what they should have in our country due to their lack of financial worth, whilst those borne into wealth go on to create even more wealth creating a divided society.
I am not for one moment stating that inheritance tax cures all of the inequality within our society, it doesn’t, but it does at least help to mitigate this inequality. It’s reckoned that only 6% of estates are subject to inheritance tax, it really only affects a small minority.

It doesn't work, look up how much was paid on Duke of Westminster's estate, the wealthy can afford to pay accountants that make sure they pay no IHT. As a single person who owns a modest house I need to start giving stuff away and hope I survive 7 years to avoid IHT. Was I born into poverty? Well the house we lived in while I was a toddler had no running water, no inside toilet, and no electricity.
p.s. I wonder how much IHT chuck paid on Lizzies estate. 😈

So you’re one of the 6% then, like myself.
I was brought up in a Glasgow tenement with one toilet shared by the whole close.

And please don’t get me started on royalty, I would only upset some on here with my views on that subject.

I dont see why anyone should pay any tax on property or goods they own and sell on, you pay when you earn money and that should be it.

I always preffered the shape of the Sierra Cozzy estate.

How is that even better when the top % don't pay.
Sweeping statement there Mark.
So you know this for a fact mark, I know different.
I had customers in the top 1% who when they passed away paid a fortune.
So much so that their kids (also my customers) had to sell their parents homes to pay the tax.
There’s a limit to what accountants can do, I know that from personal experience.
They may be able to mitigate some of the tax, but the vast majority do pay IT.

But I thought that if only 4% of estates paid the tax, that was better than 6%, or don’t you agree. ?

The royals are outside the tax rules that apply to everyone else.

They are also out of reach for many other “rules”. 🤷‍♀️

Let’s be clear here.

If you argue against inheritance tax, you are arguing that the top 4% of estates pay nothing. That all the wealth created should be passed on to their beneficiaries with no tax being collected and used in general taxation to benefit us all.
But if some feel that people who inherit millions should pay no tax, whilst people earning over £12,600 should pay tax, then so be it. But it’s not what I would vote for.
Just my worthless opinion.
