using jump leads

I always carry one like THIS don't even have to lift the bonnet you can ever get power to your engine battery from your leisure's and less chance of doing any damage to either vehicle's ECU
I have one of those as well, before I fitted a Schaudt LR 1218 solar regulator which also charges the engine battery I used it to top the engine battery up from the leisure batteries, work pretty good

Main thing on modern electronic cars/vans is let the doner wagon charge the battery up at fast tick over for about 15 mins before trying to crank as no spike will happen,some makers state to remove jump leads as d/van may confuse or damage electrics on other wagon.
My proton stated this in h/book but i did jump it as it was flat from dealers yard,no damage happened,they may be covering there backs.

Your more likely to get someone to help you if you've one of these not many like jump starting now a days and you can use your leisure battery to transfer power if no one is around

As good a course of action as any.

You can replenish your leisure batteries once the engine is running, as well as your starter battery.

I’ve got a similar set to what Whitsend indicated.

Just Push it into appropriate Cig lighter sockets,
They are not ment to instantly ‘Jump’ life into your flagging Battery, But more ‘Link’ The two batteries in order to leach a much needed Top up of Spark Power over a Bit of running time (Say 15mins).
And to my mind MUCH MUCH easier than all this Bonnet Popping, Post Finding, Potential Sparking & Battery connecting !.

I buy good quality engine batteries and at the first sign of a reduction in performance i buy a new one, normally about 5-ish years.

The old battery is then weighed in or a friend buys them at scrap value as he refuses to pay full price for anything and this offsets the price a little.

We wild camp in some very remote places with no one else around and the last thing i want is the dreaded .............. click,click,click ........... when i turn the key.

When we are away the car battery gets a small solar panel attached to it which then sits on top of the dash and is as full after 8 or 10 weeks as it is before we go.

This regime works for me, i`ve never had a flat battery and i`m happy with the way i do it :dance:

It is not THAT unusual I think and I'd imagine will be due to having a split charge relay for your leisure battery charging from the Alterntor, but you do need to be careful as the starting current is very high and may blow the fuse between starter battery and charge relay (or leisure battery and charge relay).

When I get round to installing my Split-Charge setup, I will be fitting it in a way I can do just as you describe.

Not ‘That’ uncommon & a Really good idea if you have the right kinda Leasure Battery fitted to cope with the occasional (Possibley Big Diesel) Start.

I’m Changing my Engine Start Battery Tomorrow as part of my Proactive Maintenance regime. & because the ‘Ooomph’ has dwindled to a ‘Cough’.
New one has just come Woo Whoo !

Now as I didn’t want to Loose any Radio Codes Or Have Alarm Or Engine Problems I decided to run a cpl of ‘Patch Leads’ in to maintain a power connection & voltage.

I have a few Bits n Bobs that need a smear of grease so will tackle them all tomorrow with my Gloves on !

If the battery was well flat they would take a week to work,there only used if batt is down slightly.

If you les batterys are down with use there is little chance of them starting a engine which requires high amps,unless of course the les batts are charged by the solar panels in summer time,my s/panels charge all my batts.

Hope you bought a bosch or varta,£110,with 5 years with out voltage drop off,normal lead acid batterys are dieing from day one of filling with acid.
