yes i'm sure we all know how to do it , but i bet there's a few who don't 6ZmMfrI.png any how, can't hurt

For starting a large diesel such as you might find in a M/home I have never had any success unless I connected directly to the dead battery - rather than the under bonnet connectors (maybe I'm just unlucky)

I read somewhere that you should remove the negative lead on the dead battery and that way you aren't dragging the donor battery down with the dead battery voltage.
I have never tried this but I suppose if for some reason you can't put some charge into the dead battery by running the donor vehicle it probably is a good idea.

Just a word of advice for all you Peugeot Boxer, Citroen Relay and Fiat Ducato owners of which are really all the same. If you ever need to jump start your vehicles use the designated earth point in the centre of your scuttle panel when you open the bonnet. Its like an upside down bolt for your Black jump lead. Do not use your wiper motor mounting at all costs even though located nearby as this will blow your engine ecu and cost you lots of money! The positive conection point for your red jump lead will be under a little flap at your Engine fusebox which is located behind your passenger side heaďlamp, again still under the bonnet. Using these points is actually better than lifting up the battery cover and connecting direct.
Dont want to feel as though im lecturing but see this mistake all to often in my job and its not covered under your warranty as we can tell straightaway that its been jumped using the wiper motor support bracket.

I always carry one like THIS don't even have to lift the bonnet you can ever get power to your engine battery from your leisure's and less chance of doing any damage to either vehicle's ECU

How does it work

How does it work? Must take a hefty current to jump start a diesel, and those cables don't look very thick at all.

Lots of manufacturers BMW Rover as was and Citroen and Fiats advise against jumping,,,the sudden spike in electrickery a chance the electronics fry and leave an expensive bill

Nature of the site no doubt someone knows better but will they pay the bill for any damage caused ? ,,, Check handbooks before you even think about jumping a car ....things moved on since Austin A7s and Prefects .Vans full of electric tricks check !!

Just looked under my 07 Boxer bonnet and can't see either of these connection points...or scuttle panel for that matter. There's no little flap on fuse box either ?? Only jumped it once directly to battery with no issues though. Maja
...oh there's no battery cover either....terminals exposed....is there something missing...no comment when it had cam belt done ?? Comments appreciated....Maja

I would agree.

The initial diagram posted is a great start, but should be used only when also taking into account any specific info for both the car being jumped and the 'donor' car.
(I recall my DS5 had very specific info provided by the battery on where any jump leads can be connected)

The main lesson here is to learn where the connection points are before you need them.

I appoligise Maja for not being clearer in my explanation. My words of warning are for the Boxer 3 models of which i think came into production around 2010 onwards . These vehicles have there Batteries located within the cabin and not under the Bonnet.
Appoligise for the misundestanding

Been fixing the buggers longer than i thought then:sad: haha......remember fitting Rubber duck type aerials to the mk 2 on pdi when likes of Cambells and Marquis brought them in.

Im not an engineer or Peugeot specialist BUT its seems strange that they would install a set of jump start terminals under the bonnet if it wasnt safe to use them!

Unfortunatly Batteries do go flat so it becomes a must really to sometimes have to jumo start them and manufacturers know this. Most new modern vehicles have that much of a demand with various electrical networks working behind the scenes that they arrive to us at dealers in a transportation mode which is basically a power saving mode whilst they stood waiting to be sold.
Yes jump starting can generate a possible voltage spike but if you are concerned just turn on your side lights before conecting your jump leads this should then absorb any voltage surges.
Its all about as somebody previously mentioned knowing where your jump lead connection points are. If unsure leave to the recovery guys who are meant to know what they doing.

I knew there would be one !! 23 years motor trade main dealer counts for feck all it seems carry on or learn to read you conveniently omitted in my post that reading the manual might not be a bad idea

My manual DOES give the instructions for 'starting from another battery' (page 105-6)

You say that you have been in the motor trade for 23 years, Peugeot was started in 1810 so its possible that they too know a thing or two!

As I say to my uneducated mind its would be perverse to install a feature whose sole application, if used, would cause expensive damage

Ah, Campbells :scared: that`s brought back a few nightmares :scared: and the discussions i had with their service manager :mad2::mad1::mad2::mad1:

Mine is opposite of the diagram, I have jump started the mh twice now, car is a 2016 Astra and has a positive pole in engine compartment and a flange for negative, not sure where the battery is located, on last one it was under back seat. Mh is a 2.7 diesel sprinter base so connect to battery poles.

As to pulling done battery down I always connect jump leads then start doner vehicle engine and leave it running a few minutes before trying to start flat battery vehicle then once started I disconnect. Not for fear of pulling done battery down but just to get them out the way. If it sounds like doner engine stutters it needs someone in the vehicle lifting revs.

Thats my system anyway and it will depend if you have an accessible battery on vehicles. My first choice would always be battery post to battery post but no idea if its recommended or not just that eliminates every other electrical component on the vehicles

The reason for not doing that is sparks and exploding car batteries, last connection made away from a gassing car battery.
